I'd figured it'll be fun to see which Carpet Nozzle my Fellow Collectors believe is Best!

I'm talking about Carpet Nozzles, I don't mind you including a Power-Nozzle if you want.

My vote, Hands down, Goes to General-Electric's "Twin-Clean" Nozzle. It WORKS WONDERS on our flat, Berber carpet and Rug!

You can just hear all the Dirt swooshing up into the cleaner!

I like that one a lot. The older Filter Queen nozzle (as included on the Model 31 and earlier) is pretty darn good, too. I hear a lot of folks sing the praises of the Compact/Tristar rug nozzle, but I've never used one without a power nozzle.

I really love the "Dust Magnet" wheeled carpet nozzle that came with my Electrolux UltraSilencer Green suction only canister vac! I am amazed how well it cleans the surface litter off of medium pile carpets. The strong suction of the vac can be adjusted both by modifying the slider on the canister and by adjusting the suction valve on the hose handle, thus getting the perfect level of suction to allow the nozzle to glide with just the right amount of pressure on the carpet surface. Even when the bare floor bristles are in the down position, the nozzle can gently brush the surface of the carpet to disengage dirt from the surface. The two velcro lint strips also add to the cleaning effectiveness of the nozzle.

I Would Agree

That the Compact rug tool is good.  Don't discount the Filtex rug tool with the rollex action.  One had a rotating metal bar and the other had a brush.  For low pile carpets it works wonders.  Top.

i must say a filter queen rug nozzle works great , and also the Electrolux is wonderful to but in my opinion : My compact Power head is amazing on all types of carpet adjust the suction relief on the turbo brush and I can clean effortlessly , and the metal rug tool of the compact is the best in my opinion

Compact/Tristar Rug Tool:

On Compact/Tristar machines, rug nozzle performance is very good indeed, IF you have the real rug nozzle.

A lot of machines have a plastic clip-on thingy called a "rug shoe"; it clips over the bristles on the bare-floor nozzle.

It does not work nearly as well as the real rug nozzle, and if it's not put on to the bare-floor tool carefully, it crushes the bare-floor tool's bristles.

Here's a photo of the tools for my CXL. Clockwise from upper left, we have:

- Rug Tool
- Dusting Brush
- Crevice Tool
- Upholstery Tool with Grille
- Bare-Floor Tool
- Clip-On Tool Caddy (Center)

The clip-on tool caddy clips to the wand. No, it was not easy finding all these in the clear/glitter finish! And locating that little grille for the upholstery tool was a BOOGER. They are almost always missing, and they are NLA.

Rug Shoe:

Here's another photo of my CXL; it shows the rug shoe, which I have in addition to the real rug nozzle.

The rug shoe is the clear plastic thingy in between the bare-floor and rug tools:

The Best Rug Cleaning Tool Is:

The adjustable Powermate found on late-'70s/early '80s Lady Kenmores.

With a tap of the toe, you could adjust the brushroll height for any carpet you were cleaning. If you liked - and I did - you could adjust it a little lower than recommended for extra-deep cleaning.

All that plus edge-cleaning and a headlight!

OOPS!

After I let all the photos download, I saw that Erik had already provided a photo of the Compact/Tristar rug shoe that is much better than mine!

For Straight suction..

I agree with Fred, the Filtex really does a great job, the Lewyt is a suprising rug tool, when you pull it back and the valve closes, hold the hose up to your ear..it sounds like a sand storm, the Rainbow Jet Rug tool is great...especially if you use it on something with some power,I like the later GE Twin Clean that doesent have the rollers on it.

I feel suction only carpet nozzles are for bulky surface litter pickup only-they simply can't deep clean the way a powernozzle or upright will. The carpet tool works good for picking up hair from people or pets-Ie where people comb or brush hair, and where pets sleep on a floor.Go over those areas with the carpet tool-than the upright or powernozzle. That way hairs don't get tangled in a rollerbrush. Also in areas where sewing may be done-to pick up long thread peices.

Don't forget about the Air-Way rug tool. It cleans like a dream, and with a slight turn of your wrist, the brush is brought to bear on lint, hair, and threads.

The Royal and Electro-Hygiene rug nozzle, similar to the Filter Queen nozzle (almost identical actually) also does a great job. Here's the full set with my 260 Royalaire.

Funny this thread should come up...earlier this week I traded in a Central Vac International system from the mid-1960's. The lady had had the house built, and still lives there at 97 years old!

The original carpet tool was still around...I'd seen this in several old CVI brochures, but never in person. It still needs to be cleaned up, but man does it work! Couldn't believe the grit it pulled out of just-vacuumed carpets. All it says on the top is "Converter"...anybody know anything about it? Was this exclusive to CVI?

Underside...it has a narrow slot which seems to concentrate the airflow, plus vents on the front and back which cause air to be drawn in, similar to a Rexair tool. Those red strips are hard plastic with little dimples on them...they don't seem to contact the carpet, so I'm assuming they just serve as a barrier so the air coming in the front and back is forced into the carpet pile.

However it works, it sure seems to work well. No brush, though, so it might not do so well on pet hair.
