    Rug Doctor?

On that point gsheen, you've reminded me of my annoyance with the Rug Doctor, if you want to activate the agitator brush, the pump runs too, you can't turn the pump off and just agitate the carpet.

How often do people come across bad power cables on vacuums?

I'm not sure where the Watchdog report would be, it might not even be Watchdog but I remember seeing something on TV. It's nice that the cable is easy to change, Kirby have always made it easy for the end user to change I think (apart from that torx screw on the cable cover which most people...

How often do people come across bad power cables on vacuums?

Ah I remember the DC01 problems. Think they reported it on Watchdog at the time. The Kirby took me by surprise as it didn't seem externally damaged, I think it was the original though and perhaps the cable grommet and zip tie down by the footswitch might be where it's worn out, it does look...

How often do people come across bad power cables on vacuums?

Just wondering how often people find their power cables are bad? I had my first one a couple of years ago on my Sebo X1.1, it was broken where it attached to the handle so would cut out if you happened to twist it while you were vacuuming, especially if the cable got caught under a door...

    Rug Doctor?

Yes, I have a Mighty Pro and find it to be a very good machine. It will transform my parents carpet back to cream from the current muddy brown colour very shortly. I was amazed the first time I used it. I bought the unit second hand and I've replaced the pump already, not a particularly easy job.

    1989 Electroluz Z616E

What a nice blast from the past! An old next door neighbour had one of these when I was young, never knew what type of Electrolux it was. It always had a taped together hose - this was it! We had the Kirby Legend II at the time.

    Hoover Turbopower 1000

On our old DC02, the plastic of the handle/wand that goes into the pipe broke off. Glued the broken ring back onto the wand with Araldite, it's still attached and strong, probably 15 years after it was fixed. It gets used at work for vacuuming out PCs now. Hasn't had its filters changed since...

    Argos Catalogue Scans - 1999-2002

The Electrolux 5805 bagless cylinder! Argh! Terrible memories of static shocks from vacuuming the carpet. if you didn't get caught by the extension pole, the static would build up around the tool holder (which sat over your hand) and eventually zap you. No other vacuum ever did it.

    Vax New Wave 1300

Wow, I remember seeing those! Be interesting to see it set up and working.

    The V Word...

Human, did you end up going from 32bit windows to 64bit? 32bit windows can only address 3-3.5GB RAM.

    The V Word...

I work in IT and Win2K was brilliant for its time. XP is long in the tooth now and I groan whenever I see it. Vista was always slow. It works, but I always know that if I put Windows 7 on the same PC, it would be faster. Vista just wasn't optimised properly. If I were using Vista or 7, like I...

    Hoover Turbopower 1000

Interesting read, you probably want to re-do it with some Araldite as I find hot glue isn't very strong.

Why Kirby plastic fans are superior...

The sock under/down the side of the bed scenario would be in hose mode, probably with some extension pipes as I tend to reach down between the gap to dust the skirting board. Some good answers anyway :)

Why Kirby plastic fans are superior...

OK, slightly unrelated but I've been wondering since got my G4 a couple of months ago, what's likely to happen if I manage to suck up a sock? Will it get jammed in the fan? I don't have a habit of sucking up socks, but it's likely I might come across one under a bed one day...

    Numatic Henry HVR200A

Interesting read. My Henry Autosave was dead when I got it a few years ago, only the high/low would show a red light if pushed but the motor wouldn't run. Found it had a worn out brush, replaced it and off it went, but only ever on high. Works fine, sounds like the triac is shorted in my case...

    Dyson carpet washing

I also agree sucking up water with the Dyson isn't a good idea! Re: wet/dry vacs and their safety devices, the float ball on my Vax to cut off any water getting to the motor got stuck... it didn't like water in its motor. Thankfully I realised what had happened and killed it quickly.

    Dyson DC14 Animal Refurb

I had one of those before I switched to Sebo X4, it was 'refurbed' when it got to me, couldn't pick threads up from the carpet... so it was quickly dismissed as useless by my mum.

    Daily driver?

I should have added that my daily driver is a Sebo BS36 now. Used to have a Sebo X1.1, took it back to my parents house for them to use upstairs. They have an X4 for downstairs and a Henry for the hard floor. The Sebo isn't brilliant at edge cleaning or cat litter on hard floors. When I grew up...

    Nilfisk GM80P

Lovely to see a brand new one! My grandma lives in NZ and when I visited around '97, I remember vacuuming with one of those.

    Daily driver?

Turbo500, my parents have that same purple rug, how does your X1.1 handle it? I have a recollection that their X4 does not like it...
