Shark Rotator Powered Lift Away Stop Sale/Recall

Marcus, With regard to the difference in pricing in the US vs. the UK, it's worth pointing out that the local, independently owned and operated vac shop is still very much a big thing over there. They sell products that are simply not available in big box stores, demonstrate them to the...

Vorwerk KOBOLD VK150 - My new toy!

What a beauty, green with envy here. I did try the previous model VK140, and liked it very much, particularly with the new brushless motor. The Vorwerk tool set has always been one of the best available IMHO, cleverly designed and an absolute joy to use. Last time I bought a new Vorwerk was...

    Vax New Wave 1300

Always wondered about that too, if it wasn't for the angled body it wouldn't half look like an Elux Contour clone. Possibly the reason was to reduce the machine's footprint when the wet cleaning tanks are installed, because it's already a rather large cleaner to begin with.

    Latest Find - Hitachi Canister

Had no idea until recently that this style of cleaner, in an updated form, is still being made. There are quite a few suppliers in Germany offering them for commercial use, and in addition to the cloth filtered models, there's also a bagged version too. http://www.hitachistaubsauger.de

    Vax New Wave 1300

Should definitely pick up better than that, so new belts probably would make a vast difference. Although not the most aggressive groomer, I do remember it still cleaned OK. Wouldn't worry too much about not having the "maintenance tool", as it was only a flimsy plastic rod. The belt track on...

    Vax New Wave 1300

The grooming performance might improve with new belts, but I don't think the brush roll is great on these to begin with. The bristles on ours seemed quite brittle and wore away very quickly, to the point there was almost nothing left after two years. Vax were asking £35 for a replacement, which...

    Vax New Wave 1300

IIRC, the Vax 3-in-1 uprights were the Eclipse, 8000 series, New Wave, T series and HF series, in that order. All basically the same aside from minor differences, such as tweaks to the filter arrangement and design of the wet cleaning tanks. These were Vax's attempt at clawing back some of the...

    DC59 Animal Complete ordered !

Absolutely love mine, and it gets a lot of use around here. So easy to grab at a moment's notice when we want to vacuum puddy hair off the sofa, give the kitchen floor a once over or quickly zip around just before guests come to visit. The suction power is good, and both the mini motorised head...

Dirt Devil Broomy 750 UK (Royal).

For smaller homes, or as a second vacuum, I always thought these were rather good. At the time Royal had their own UK subsidiary operating out of Milton Keynes, and were pushing the DD brand in a big way. The Handy and Eclipse proved popular, the Broomy and Can Vac less so. Never saw the Broomy...

Sebo Felix, how does it compare?

I think you're correct in saying bids only serve to attract other bidders, rather than it being shill activity. Sometimes I get the impression people start panicking when they see someone else has an eye on "their" item, and that's when a bidding war starts. Not cool if you're buying (that's...

Worst experience of buying a vacuum on eBay?

Several years ago I bought a fully refurbished Sebo X1 on eBay that turned out to be nothing of the sort. The photos were obviously very flattering, because when it arrived I could see the seller hadn't even bothered to wipe it down. Filthy, scuffed up, screws missing from the base assembly, and...

I Can't Take This Woman Seriously

Never understood why Numatic never added tool storage posts on Henry's "bum end", between the wheels. Kerstar do this on their canister vacs (see piccy), and IIRC, Contico offers a similar setup on theirs also. The tool storage clips they supply now serve a purpose I suppose, but they're far...

new Miele C3 Celebration w/powernozzle available in the UK

If this shares the same setup as the externally corded 236, with a plugged connection that clips onto the bottom of the extension wand and mates with the PN neck, you at least have the option of removing the PN to fit a floor brush or combi head, while leaving the cable in situ. As for using...

    Disappointed with Dyson ethics

Never do what you love for a living. Sucks all the joy out of it, pun intended.

    EU Ratings

The 100% suction claim caused a lot of confusion even then, when people were being told at the same time they needed to keep on top of filter changes or else risk losing suction. As I used to tell my customers, the cyclone only replaces the bag, but it does still have filters which work in...

    Disappointed with Dyson ethics

That's the very first thing I would expect each lab to be doing. Regardless of who is doing the testing, they ought to be using a brand new section of the very same carpet from the same manufacturer each time (after cleaning it first with the reference vacuum cleaner to remove any loose fibres...

    EU Ratings

Meh, something being the first of its kind doesn't necessarily imply that it's the best, or even any good. The outhouse earth closet came on the scene way before the modern indoor flush toilet, but I know which I'd prefer. Look at the DC01 as an example. For the sake of argument I think we can...

    EU Ratings

The other problem we have with the EU rating system as it is, is that people will treat it as gospel when it happens to reinforce the beliefs they hold about a certain product, but the moment things don't quite go their way it will be declared inaccurate or rigged! With different products being...

A Roll Easy for the 21st Century?

It does look well thought out, and I particularly like the small footprint it has when stood on end. At first glance it appears to have a Dyson Telescope-esque hose and wand setup, but from reading the manual it's actually a conventional separate telescopic wand which I prefer. Separate tools...

    EU Ratings

And I see we're all posting at the same time. Chris pretty much nailed it on the head I think. Moral of the story, take what the adverts and customer service reps say with a pinch of salt. The EU rating system could be a fantastic tool, but only if implemented properly. As it is, manufacturers...
