Hey folks,

Just stumbled across this on miele.co.uk. There are 3 new "Celebration" models available, with the TOL being the Electro EcoLine with powernozzle and the first Miele vacuum to get AAAA ratings.


 


Still quite steep at £400, but now directly rivaling the price range of the Sebo D4. I'm not keen on the wire around the hoses and tubes but it's nice to see another Miele PN model available.

Not quite sure why Miele needed to put the power nozzle cable on the outside of the hose. In North America, all Miele pn canisters have wiring integrated inside the hose and wands.

If the reason is the integrated dusting brush on the handle, I'd rather have the handle without the brush.

Weird. :-(
 
I suspect it is probably to cheapen it by putting the power nozzle cord externally, however, as you can see, there is a C3 Comfort with a power nozzle here (link bellow) with the regular Miele Power nozzle and all the wiring is internal on that model, needless to say, the C3 Comfort is more expensive.

Aha....I see. Makes sense to offer a cheaper version.

The AirTeq carpet nozzle is really quite good, as it cleans very well. It also has a nice little rubber bumper around the perimeter to protect baseboards and furniture.
 
I actually like the hefty feel of the AirTeq nozzle: it feels solid and well made, and the added weight adds pressure to the carpet to help it deep clean the fibres. This tool will not "surf" and "skip" over the surface of rugs. The two rubber wheels are quite large and make movement easier than smaller wheels or rollers.
 
I'm a bit confused. How come this model with the 228 power nozzle gets an A rating on carpet but their other model with the 236 power nozzle which costs £600 only gets a C rating on carpet? That doesn't make sense to me.[this post was last edited: 2/9/2015-01:42]

Erm...

That's a huge no from me- having used PN machines with external cables they are a pain in the neck.... and my K3 Eco was £160 less!!

I know Chris but aren't both power nozzles tested by Miele? Surely their TOL nozzle the 236 would give as good results as the 228 power nozzle? Not sure I like the cable being on the outside either.

If this shares the same setup as the externally corded 236, with a plugged connection that clips onto the bottom of the extension wand and mates with the PN neck, you at least have the option of removing the PN to fit a floor brush or combi head, while leaving the cable in situ.

As for using the small tools directly on the handle, however, this means unclipping and removing the entire cord from the hose each time. Now that really would be a P in the A, and an inconvenience I would find inexcusable on a cleaner costing £400.

I'd go with Sebo if I was buying a PN cylinder. For less money you get direct connect at every step along the way from the machine to the powerhead, remote power control, lower running costs and an additional 3 years' warranty.
 
I DO like the idea of the cable being on the outside of the hose. Looking at the bigger picture should there ever be an issue it will be much cheaper to replace just the cable, rather than the high cost of a new electric hose.

That said however I think the price of Miele spares is a tad high.

So I'll stick with my Sebo D4 Premium.

As another member has said... more features, cheaper running costs and a longer warranty.
I also think the Sebo is much more servicable too in regards of ease of brush roll removal and such like
 
If Miele offered a standard 5 year warranty on their power nozzle models ( which they should considering the price!) plus an easy to remove and replace brushroll and edge cleaning then I'd be tempted to buy one but as it stands Sebo PN models would be my choice.
Straight suction I'd go for the Miele C3 (S8) if you want a more compact cylinder the upcoming Sebo E series looks excellent!
 
I very nearly bid on a Miele C3 recently (the old S5 body) on the basis that it offers near enough the spec of the new SEBO E series and possible weight since the newer motors are lighter. However, I"ll be keen to see what length the power cable is on the new E series and it all comes down to pricing.

Miele can charge what they like of course, but with a three tier range of models, the SEBO E has to be cost effective at the least. Half of its work is done already based on the fact SEBO will put more than 4 bags in a box with long term costs. I'll just have to wait and see what the new E brings to the table.

Do you mean a C2?

Under the new regs:

S2 became the C1
S5 became the C2 Complete
S6 became the C2 Compact
S7 became the U1
S8 became the C3
 
The C2 Complete (S5) is 6kg and the C3 Complete (S8) is 5.4kg. Not sure what the Sebo E series weighs? It has a 10.8m cleaning radius so similar to the C3 Complete which has an 11m cleaning radius.
 
I really have no idea why Miele continued with the S5 style after the EU regs came in. That would've been the perfect time to end that style. There is absolutely no performance difference between the C2 Complete (S5) and C3 (S8). The price difference isn't much either.
 
I dunno maybe some people prefer the rotating knob to the foot switches? Is the S5 built better than the S8?

They're both about the same. There's very little difference between the 2, apart from astethics.

Personally, I prefer the design of the S5/C2 Powerline, but that's no reason to continue production of 2 TOL machines. There must be some kind of logic to it, but I haven't figured out what it is yet :P
 
Haha i agree with you i think it's strange too! I like the blue colour celebration S8 very nice. But then blue is my fav colour.

Speaking as an owner of both the S5 is slightly heavier and a bit more robust than the S8. Miele have counter acted this with a slight increase of the rubberised bumper on the S8 bodies, minimising body scratches compared to the S5.

The S8 also has no rotary dial control for suction speed and I rather love that there's a push button memory that the Miele will save on the S8 rather than having to press the speed after use, each time. Its a little thing, but I dont mind the change up from dial to press buttons. Im not all that bothered on how a suction speed looks; as long as a cylinder vac has one I'm happy.

Miele always wants to make money but since the recession I think they are just selling off the last of the bodies and machines; the S4 "Young Style" is proof of this; it appeared shortly after the blue S4212 was phased out and was a Curry's exclusive for a short time. Alongside that was the S700 cylinder vacs and after September 2014, few were also sold with the low rated motors.

Its all about making money, Chris; that's why Miele have introduced all these "older" vacuums on the market; not just to counteract a recession and thus giving buyers a wider choice, but also to finish off older production bodies.

SEBO are also doing the same; they're happy with sales of the K series and are selling the E series alongside the K series and in time will phase out the K, just as the D series did for the C series.

The Germans are not into wasting many a good design, particularly if it still sells well and if there is life left to give.
 
Of course Miele have also counteracted these old machines versus new by offering more components as well.

Only a few months ago they offered the now difficult to find "flex handle" XXL handle which allows any Miele S6 owner to double up the hose in a more compact way. It is also a bit longer than the standard bent handle and can also be retro-fitted to any Miele cylinder vac provided that the machine has double slots on the body. I thought about it but I ordered the Comfort handle from Miele in Germany as I find it far more comfortable to use than the bent handle on my S8.

I'd likie a comfort handle. How much did you pay for yours Nar? I've seen them on Ebay for around £40.
