    Wanting to Test Vacuums

There's actually one small, simple hack to the Shark Navigator that makes it the best vacuum possible. More power than central vacuums, lighter than stick vacuums, higher capacity than shop vacuums... It's a shame they released it in such a state. It's such an easy fix to make, anyone could do...

    Wanting to Test Vacuums

You are correct that airflow though the instrument is not constant along the cross section, but the tool should be calibrated to account for that.

    Wanting to Test Vacuums

Most of that is relevant for measuring just the motor performance and system restriction (which is an important metric), but what I was pointing out is that his setup gives some information about the interface between the cleaner head and the surface being cleaned. I don't think the .8...

    Wanting to Test Vacuums

Vane anemometers don't inherently read high. Or are you referring to the effects of turbulence and uneven air flow I mentioned?

    How so?

    Wanting to Test Vacuums

I like that his method allows testing the interface between the cleaning head and surface being cleaned, instead of just the airflow and suction of the motor minus plumbing losses. I saw on another video that he taped the head to the box to get peak values, but I hope that he does unsealed tests...

Main Equivalency! Which one would you take?

    Are you ok?

Any equivalent fan I could use?

I wouldn't. Vinegar will corrode the metal. If heavy corrosion buildup is your concern, there are better ways to remove it that will do less damage to the part. Otherwise just clean it with a good detergent. Could also use an ultrasonic cleaner if you have one.

Any equivalent fan I could use?

What exactly is the issue with the fan? It looks structurally sound from the picture you provided. Vibrations caused by the fan would be because the fan is unbalanced, which based on your picture would mean that either one of the impellers inside has become at least partially detached and...

Main Equivalency! Which one would you take?

If only we had options besides 'old machines with large center belts' and 'Dyson's clone of the uncleaned center strip concept'. I guess the technology just isn't there yet...

Main Equivalency! Which one would you take?

The saga continues lol... I do have a question though. Which brands would you say are best and worst in regard to parts compatibility across generations? Seems easy enough to accomplish to a fair degree if they cared to do so.

    Pick your poison: Main equivalency!

I am quite sure that @cheesewonton and his opinions are very much more respected than you and yours.

Main Equivalency! Which one would you take?

Ouch, that one looks terrible. What is that tiny little bag lol? Seems like it is rated at 35 CFM and 22 inH2O. Their current best one is rated at 53 CFM and 31 inH2O, and comes with a cyclone attachment. Quite a bit better in ratings, but I don't think any of these style are going to have a...

    Pick your poison: Main equivalency!

Couldn't agree much more with all of this. I've wondered what his purpose is here too. I really hope it's not to impart a positive opinion of Dyson - he has the opposite effect, if any.

Main Equivalency! Which one would you take?

This thread got me thinking - with how some people complain about vacuum tests using unfair 'construction site' test conditions, maybe the tool brand vacuums might not perform as badly as I first assumed. If certain residential vacuums struggle to pick up dry tea leaves, maybe one designed for...

Main Equivalency! Which one would you take?

I know there's a lot less incentive when corded, but I do wish we'd see more brushless corded options.

    Pick your poison: Main equivalency!

Thanks for putting that all together. Kirby definitely isn't at the cutting edge, but the claim that their underlying technology hasn't been significantly upgraded since the original betrays a deep ignorance of the topic.

Main Equivalency! Which one would you take?

I did suggest that you remake your thread early on and remove your biases and opinions from the poll options. This thread is much better since it keeps the poll relatively neutral.

    The cordless stick vac formfactor

If we're being honest, all of these vacuums - Dyson included - are just cheap clones and knock-offs of the 1908 Hoover Model O.
