Is lower power ever an advantage?

My initial thought is no, but I was wondering. Just as I was getting into vacuums I purchased an unused NIB Clarke Filtrapac backpack vacuum off the Bay for a decent price. Backpacks are useful for the kind of work I do, so it made sense. Being new to vacuums, though, I didn't have a full...

    Finally got a direct drive!

Purple one... Wow, I had no idea the purple one was a different design. Any idea why the changed it? I'm always very interested in those reasons. Cost cutting or an actual attempt at improvement? Or some contractual reasons? I also have a purple one that's bagless. I though it was okay, but...

    Finally got a direct drive!

I like it! I have one of those. Nope, make that two. Same color. I actually lent one to my brother on an indefinite basis. Then I was trolling at my thrift store when one of the employees started wheeling out some vacuums. Among them was another one, for $20 as yours was. But I swear, it must...

Royal metal vac cloth outer bags: please tell me about filtration.

I was vacuuming with my Royal metal a few weeks ago, cleaning up the old house after a move. I noticed that feeling of fine dust in the back of my throat as well as on my skin. There was that slightly stale, musty dust smell in the air, too. I have one of those Anniversary editions with the...

    Sanitaire Sc886 Vs. Kirby Sentra

Despite the will and motivation, I have not found the time to modify it yet. Hopefully this coming Monday or Tuesday. I'll post here once it's done!

    Robotic vacuums...

For bare floors...? I always thought these were a joke, nothing more than glorified carpet sweepers, until I read a short review in Cook's Illustrated magazine. They tested them on bare floor, and I thought, of course, they would probably work very well on bare floors. They tested it in...

    Another Compact Descendant

Super good deal! Wow, sweet deal! I like the styling of the Airstorm as well as the Tristar CXL. The Airstorm reminds me of a motorhome from the 50's, complete with whitewall tires and all. The Tristar CXL is cool art deco from the 30's or 40's. Both have a lot of character. Nice!

Tristar CXL, DXL and Miracle Mate Mk1 and Platinum: What's the difference, really?

Wessel Works... A similar Wessel Werks PN was used on the Hyla NST. Are the Wessel Werks PNs any good? I notice Miracle Mate is using a different PN now. I don't know the entire history, but I know at some point they used Lindhaus and then Edgelift after that. Now a German model (Sebo?). Were...

Tristar CXL, DXL and Miracle Mate Mk1 and Platinum: What's the difference, really?

Gasket... I guess the cardboard forms or contributes to the gasket effect, sealing up the leaks. I'm tempted to fashion something out of a sheet of silicon rubber. Not a flat sheet like the cardboard, but a gasket around the rim. Of course, I could always order a bunch of Miracle Mate bags...

Tristar CXL, DXL and Miracle Mate Mk1 and Platinum: What's the difference, really?

Tristar bag in Miracle Mate? I forgot to ask, can the open Tristar bag be used in the Miracle Mate Platinum? From the cutaway pic of the Platinum, it seems like it would be backwards compatible with the Tristar's open topped bags. Anyone know for sure? I would try it myself, but the MM was a...

Tristar CXL, DXL and Miracle Mate Mk1 and Platinum: What's the difference, really?

Is that a Sebo powerhead on the current Miracle Mate? This is what it says on the Miracle Mate website: The Platinum Cleaning System wouldn’t be complete without an incredible powerhead. Designed and manufactured in Germany by Stein & Co. GMBH, a company known for making powerheads that clean...

    As requested (Power nozzles)

Thanks for doing the test. Very enlightening. Hard to say long term which really is the better PN. Looks like a tie in this test, though. I went back and looked for discussion of Lindhaus PNs as I recall reading some less than flattering opinions of them somewhere on this forum. I found the...

Tristar CXL, DXL and Miracle Mate Mk1 and Platinum: What's the difference, really?

The more I look into Miracle Mates the more I realize they are pretty much repackaged Tristar CXL's. Yet I've read on this forum some opinions that Tristar CXL may be more powerful and less harsh on the ears. On paper they seem pretty much the same (I know the Platinum uses the covered bags...

    Hoover Windtunnel Air

I was going to jump on one of those refurbs. Great deal! It was at a time when I was wrestling if I could fit any more vacs in my place, and whether I really needed another vac. I've only heard good things about this vac. I think if I were just at the very start of building my fleet I would...

PN5 Floaties... Hmmm... the fellow from the PN website seems to fancy that floating feature on the PN5. Thanks for posting that link, Sandy. I have the PN5 on my Ultralux and a PN2 on my gold colored 1205. I'm lukewarm on how the PN5 performs I'll have to give the PN2 test run. Which one do...

    Does the world need this???

I like the idea... ...but not for the kitchen or wet stuff. I think it would be great for any working with small, dry debris. Woodshavings were mentioned. Or for someone who crafts for a living; ie, folks who sew or do small manufacturing for an Etsy type business model, for example. If you...

    new Hoover Insight Commercial

Rubbermaid... And then there's this Rubbermaid vac. It seems to get good reviews based on the handful I've seen online. It also looks to be a copy of a Sebo. I wonder which of these are partnerships with Sebo and which are just knockoffs...
