    A family mystery from 1939 - Hoover Model 60?

Thanks for all the insights! Thanks everybody for some great comments! What my grandmother told me (back in the late 1980s) was that this was one of at least 12 staged product shots, only 6 of which she appeared in. She was given a set of prints at the time, but only kept this one as it showed...

    A family mystery from 1939 - Hoover Model 60?

Hi all, I'd like you all to meet "Millie," my grandmother. Here she is posing with a brand new Hoover vacuum cleaner for a company publicity photo. Now things start to get a little hazy, and I'd love your help. Was this photo taken in 1939? My grandmother swore it was 1939, because she...

Hoover Specials - Instruction Booklet 1940

My bad Thanks, gottahavahoove. I think I’m trying to say the same thing but I’m mixing terminology. I also mixed in my curiosity about when “my” 725 was serviced in a thread about something else. My bad. Let me start a new thread with my questions and share investigation on this. That’s why...

Hoover Specials - Instruction Booklet 1940

Specials not Wartime refurbishment Hey Dysonman1, That’s right. Specials were often factory refurbished models available at a lower cost than a new machine. Hoover dealers did this going all the way back to the 20s. Maybe earlier, as one member stated. During WW2, you could not buy a new...

Hoover Specials - Instruction Booklet 1940

Awesome! Yes, indeed! I’d love to see that sometime. I’ve been researching the refurbishment of my Model 725 and believe it may have been a Wartime refurbishment. The cloth bag, the replaced switch, replaced rubber furniture guard, and the painted lower housing all point to a 1943-1945 era...

Hoover Specials - Instruction Booklet 1940

Hi all! I'm the recent proud owner of a copy of the "Hoover Specials" Instruction Manual Booklet. The printing date on the back cover shows May 1940. As far as I can gather (and please correct me if I am mistaken) this booklet was attached to factory reconditioned models of Hoover vacuum...

    Hoover 575 Project

Gorgeous! Thanks for posting your pics! So inspiring as I tear into my 725. Thanks for showing the original details, too! Amazing to see the original furniture guard (rubber bumper) and cord plug. Not to mention the original paint looks like it shined up nicely too! Would love to see a pic of...

    My Hoover 725 Project - Part 1

Both good choices Yes, corduroy is an option too. Most I’ve found have been too “ribbed” and are hard to silkscreen logos and stripes onto. I would prefer to find “cavalry twill” in 14 oz weight and 100% cotton. Bull Denim is close to cavalry twill. It’s not a “blue jeans” denim, but a very...

    My Hoover 725 Project - Part 1

Sure you can Hi 2011Hoover700! Yes, you’re welcome to save the photo. It’s from the online fabric supplier (and marked). I’ll provide the link if you want to order a sample to check. I’d love to know if it’s a close match to an original...

    My Hoover 725 Project - Part 1

Two tone cloth bag approach Thanks johnnyb59c. That’s a really sharp looking 800! Thanks for sharing those pics. I wonder if you could obtain some bull denim in charcoal grey and use fabric dye to paint the black section? You would need to make sure the fabric is 100% cotton so the dye will...

    Hoover 28 broken hood

Bakelite reply advice from the radio guys Here’s a similar thread from a Bakelite radio conversation. Same material, same problem. Might help you? https://www.antiqueradios.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=195265

    My Hoover 725 Project - Part 1

Repro bag fabric choices I’m considering a Bull Denim cotton twill (in black) 12oz weight. It has the right weight and tightness of weave. Next is a brushed cotton heavy weight cord twill, it’s “ribbed” weave is more prominent (like a mini corduroy) but may be too soft in feel.

    Hoover Model 28 Colors

Per an earlier discussion I haven’t. But I did find this posting on this forum with a discussion about The Model 60 paint color. It’s Post# 259350. My 725 looks to have been refurbished about the time the Model 60 came out. It has a bag dating to that time and it’s housing has been...

    My Hoover 725 Project - Part 1

Not repainted orange Yes, you are quite correct. I thought my unit may have had its orange strip “refreshed” when it acquired its sand beige painted housing at some point. Fortunately it seems the orange is the 1929-1931 paint, unaltered. So I can use it to match my attempt at a cloth bag...
