Question, does the Hoover Powerdrive work in both directions? If only forward do you shut it off to pull the vacuum backwards? Kind of curious how it works.
I have seen that rod for sale many times. So when you pull back on the handle it changes the direction of the Powerdrive to reverse? Slick. The upper handle moves about and pushes/pul,ls a cable. It can be turned off. It is in both directions. That reminds me of my first g series rebuild where I used a drill to tighten down the slide plate. It was stuck in forwards. Ran straight into the wall.
It was very used. Strange, because my 2001 Self-Propelled Windtunnel was also heavily used and the transmission sounds perfect in it.Hopefully the grease will fix the gear slop, if that is the correct grease for this application, if its still a problem then I'd say the teeth got wore down and they aren't connecting right. Just have to try it and see. Someone probably used it a lot.
Well by the time this one rolled off the assembly line, just before the recession, they had cheapened the parts severely, I can bet on that.It was very used. Strange, because my 2001 Self-Propelled Windtunnel was also heavily used and the transmission sounds perfect in it.
This one's from April 2010, after the recession, so that's definitely possible.Well by the time this one rolled off the assembly line, just before the recession, they had cheapened the parts severely, I can bet on that.

Please don't patronize Amazon. They abuse their workforce terribly. I hate rewarding their terrible ways.View attachment 171321
So, I just started getting to work on the gears of the transmission and they’re perfectly fine. They do need greasing, though, and the bearings are starting to go bad.
Off to Amazon to get some R4 bearings! Yes, these are what these self propelled Hoovers and all other Hoovers use.
I honestly thought that TTi switched over to sealed Ball bearings on everything. I may need to replace that R4 Bearing sometime in the future or keep it clean.Yeah that sounds more healthy, good to know the gears werent damaged.
I'd say unless you're using it like the last owner did, you should be fine. I restore all my vacuums to factory, regardless of their design flaws, as I do not use them every day for them to have the same problems emerge again after being repaired. Like how all Bison vacuums have issues with the handles and rear housing breaking apart and crumbling, most people do not use theirs that much to ever have that issue.I honestly thought that TTi switched over to sealed Ball bearings on everything. Given how I found pet hair in the Turbine nozzle slot, it's very likely the previous owner used it for pets.Light use and good repairs will fix anything. The only vacuums I will smash into walls and run into the ground (not that they ever have failed me) are my Electrolux D338, Kirby G5 and my Tellus GS80.
Most bearings are used in dozens of applications. It is unusually rare outside of aviation or nuclear power to find a bearing that was designed for a specific application. In just about every other industry an engineer looks for an existing, in production bearing that can do the job that is needed. I have found some vacuum motor bearings for old Panasonic Jet Flos are also used as front wheel bearings on quads. So, after some measuring and digging, I found an acutal equivalent to those pesky open cartridge bearings. These Hoovers use 1602 ball bearings. I'm planning to get some of these bearings soon to install them into my anniversary, as the bearing is what was causing the screeching.
Yep. The one on the right s my 2nd Anniversary since it’s just a redbadge of the Anniversary.Urm, actually, that is two.![]()
