Question, does the Hoover Powerdrive work in both directions? If only forward do you shut it off to pull the vacuum backwards? Kind of curious how it works.
I have seen that rod for sale many times. So when you pull back on the handle it changes the direction of the Powerdrive to reverse? Slick. The upper handle moves about and pushes/pul,ls a cable. It can be turned off. It is in both directions. That reminds me of my first g series rebuild where I used a drill to tighten down the slide plate. It was stuck in forwards. Ran straight into the wall.
It was very used. Strange, because my 2001 Self-Propelled Windtunnel was also heavily used and the transmission sounds perfect in it.Hopefully the grease will fix the gear slop, if that is the correct grease for this application, if its still a problem then I'd say the teeth got wore down and they aren't connecting right. Just have to try it and see. Someone probably used it a lot.
Well by the time this one rolled off the assembly line, just before the recession, they had cheapened the parts severely, I can bet on that.It was very used. Strange, because my 2001 Self-Propelled Windtunnel was also heavily used and the transmission sounds perfect in it.
This one's from April 2010, after the recession, so that's definitely possible.Well by the time this one rolled off the assembly line, just before the recession, they had cheapened the parts severely, I can bet on that.

Please don't patronize Amazon. They abuse their workforce terribly. I hate rewarding their terrible ways.View attachment 171321
So, I just started getting to work on the gears of the transmission and they’re perfectly fine. They do need greasing, though, and the bearings are starting to go bad.
Off to Amazon to get some R4 bearings! Yes, these are what these self propelled Hoovers and all other Hoovers use.
