Ge Uprights
Hi
I was looking through australias consumer magazine for 1978 this morning
the GE U4 in US was the UV40 in OZ and was still on sale in november 78. from what i figure GE vacuums still held their name until 1986. Such a good reputation for reliability here. The GE swiveltop left our shelves in 1986. A hugely popular vacuum.

In 1978 the GE UV40 cost $98.00 plus $17.50 for the accessories. Hoover Convertible was $107.50 plus $22.50 for the kit
Think hoover and electrolux held the majority between the two but i know of more having a GE vacuum in the 70's than the others.
will post the consumer magazine report in the next few days for anyone who is interested
.
cheers
mike

I can't find any info online about GE uprights from the 60s to when they became Premiers. Does anyone have any info on them? Pictures? I've seen models U4 and U5 referenced on Google. I know some were beige and some were moss green and I think some were even a yellow color, if memory serves. Thank you.

Hi Mike and all,
Here's some unofficial data of GE uprights I put together from the limited information online, beginning with the new Twin Power from 1959 until c.1979 when the later Premier-labeled ones were discontinued. Except for the U8 Lightweight, the design was the same from 1962 until the series end.

US G-E/Premier Upright Vacuum Cleaner Introduction Timeline

*Color listed in ad(s)
**G-E/Premier color name - presumed
Note: The first alphanumeric in the model IDs (e.g. V11, P1) seems to be a catalog or lot number as it differed with the second alphanumeric (U__)—the only designation typically used in consumer ephemera and advertising. There are likely more such designations than those listed below. G-E was known to update its model IDs, so it’s also possible that the first characters represented variations.
