Your Opinion: Most Powerful Electrolux/Aerus Lux to look for

     Here's a question for you: What are some of the most powerful Electrolux/Aerus Lux models that have been made that you can find on the used market? 


 


There, simple as that!  The only model I have touched in the flesh is Guardian Encore (the white and blue kind us R style bags) that I got my aunt.

...a well maintained Olympia One or Silverado Deluxe.

Ditto the Olympia and Silverado but I would also consider the Super J of the vintage vacs. The current Guardian Platinum is also really incredible.

I dont have a Olympia one or Super J but my Ap200(after rebuild ) is strong too well made and works great on rugs love it id love a metal lux for sure but i manage to score a Canadian lux wic h works good to

The Guardian platinum is very powerful, I would avoid it though because of the nonstandard hose end.
The olympia and super j are good machines, I'm also a big fan of some of the classic plastic models such as the 2100, ambassador, diplomat, etc. The current model Aerus classic is good but I don't like the one stage motor as much.

Most powerful?

It's gotta be the Guardian Platinum. It's the most powerful canister (airflow/suction wise) i've measured so far.

Bill (vaclab) Has gotten better carpet cleaning results from the Pn4 vs the later L shaped nozzles though, so i've been wondering if a 1521 series paired with a Pn4 would clean better than the platinum paired with it's L shaped PN

There is also the Perfect C101, it's not a true aerus/electrolux product but it's a clone of the metal 1521 bodies with a very powerful motor slightly surpassing even the platinum by 3 CFM at the hose.

Most Powerful Canister I've Ever Measured...

Is just as Blackheart (Devin) said: a hot-rodded (12 Amp motor swap) Electrolux Marquise 1521.

Using a HEPA bag I tested:
Canister = 146 CFM
Hose = 115 CFM
Nozzle = 88 CFM

Never knew it was possible to swap a more powerful motor for that Marquis. What was the original motor like, just curious?

I do know the current Guardian Platinum is one of the most powerful models they ever made, but my question is more about what models are often out on the used market (and for a decent price).  I know Platinums are out there, but they still hold a premium.

If I were to guess most powerful cannister anyone have a royal powercast with 12 amp motor. The cxl TriStar might be close behind. I got my 8 amp royal backpack vacuum at 117 cfm. It has 1.25 in hose and it's rather short. I'd guess the royal brute Force powercast with 12 amp would do the best. I tested my c9 and got 123 on it it's a 7 foot hose. I'd put money on royal.

Could you please post any/all CFM results from as many Vintage Electrolux models that you have results for...


 


I have most models, all in working condition, and have my own thoughts based on sound,  hand feel and performance, but some real measured results would be enlightening!

The only Electroluxes that I have personal experience with are the Ambassador III and the Epic 6500 SR.
I'm very pleased with the performance of both of them.

CFM results

Here's a 1521 Marquis with as far as I know it's original motor. Even for being as old as it is it produces hose CFM not too far from Sebo or Miele. Granted it has no after filters and it could use a better PN.

For the Marquise 1521 8.4 Amp (standard motor) I've measured:



Using HEPA bags
Canister End = 103 CFM
Hose End (Vinyl) = 84.8 CFM
Nozzle (spinning) = 69.3 CFM

These are the only two Luxes I've tested other than the aforementioned hot-rodded 12 Amp Marquise.

I didn't know Royal made a Powercast canister! All I've even seen is the underwhelming upright! Can someone share a picture? Am I just confusing that name with what I will always call a Royal deluxe "Pony"

Pretty much anything Super J and up will be close in performance to the newer models. I personally use an Aerus Electrolux LE (budget version of Hi-Tech 2100) as my daily driver, and it is an amazing vacuum.

I thought that's what you may be talking about. I used to have one in burgundy The original motor was shot but i had heard somewhere that they used the same motor as a filter queen, so i replaced it with a used but good condition filter queen motor. At the hose end I was getting 3.5/10 on the Baird meter.

You got to think with 12 amp you would be close to making out Baird meter. I've never owned one. Some may share the motor but 12 amp I dunno cannister vacuums. I'd say put 12 amp royal motor in compact. I don't know I know they asked about luxes I have no experience with them.so I'll leave it to the experts.

My Super J is a beast and my Diamond J is no slouch, either. I prefer pairing either of them with a nice, shiny PN2 or PN4 over a plastic crap-tastic Omniflow.

You can still get very good quality brushrolls on-line and they groom beautifully.

Nicholas, If I were in the market looking for a beautiful example of one of the models many of us have recommended (1401 - 1505),  I'd seriously consider the link I attached,  or keep looking for similar,  but including a (pretty roughed up, but hopefully working) matching brown PN4, wand and original hose at that price plus the shipping still seems gorgeous and reasonably priced. Looks like you'd need a new vinyl electric hose, which you can find on-line for under $50

If it's been cared for and has a smooth strong motor, it'll be a Rockstar! It's always a risk in these cases, but often work well.

Hopefully it works well.  If not, then I may have Stark's vacuum hotrod it or something.  Where did the tools store on these older models?  Off to the side or on the wand if you had a holder?

The only onboard tool that fits on the clip end of the handle at the blower side is the original combo dusting/upholstery tool.

I'm so excited for you!   You must keep us posted on your experience using it!


 


Don't forget to wipe down and vacuum out the dust bin chamber with another vacuum before using it the first time!  Also, these bags (in the link below) are excellent, and I would use them instead of the "cheapies" that come with the one you ordered!


HEPA filtered air coming out of a vintage machine really kicks it up a notch.


 


Finally, don't be discouraged if the suction at the hose end is weak.. those old braided hoses leak like a colander, and you will be able to regain the massive power and performance this machine offers by getting one of the new vinyl hoses.  You'll be able to feel the real power right away by putting your hand directly over the intake on the machine.  Don't lose a finger!


 


Here's a better selection, but remember to get the electric hose with the connections that will fit your model!  I'm planning on splurging and getting myself the 10 foot one for $79.99 in the near future!  You can also research new OEM on eBay, but make sure to get a new one!

     I have used VAC bags before, but went with some different hepa bags this time.  I also ordered a vinyl hose and a charcoal post bag filter.


 


     Just for the heck of it, what motor would one use to hotrod one of these old electroluxes?
