Your Dyson don't suck? Gee, I wonder why...

Last weekend I picked up a Dyson DC07 which was going free about 30 miles from me, and as we wanted to go out for a drive anyway, I decided that we'd swing by and pick it up.


 


Apparently it worked fine (or, as fine as a Dyson can work - but do I judge?) in normal use but the hose had no suction.


 


I picked it up, went home and immediately wondered what the issue could be, as even I know that there isn't much that can cause a Dyson to lose hose suction other than a torn hose, which I first expected given that is is a 10 year old machine and has probably had a hard life.


 


I suppose I had just underestimated the stupidity of people as when I took off the U bend (I suppose it would be called?) I discovered the problem! 


 


I will leave the pictures to show you, as well as the rest of the dirt and grime the machine had in it. 


 


It has now been cleaned up with new filters and a belt ready to go to a new home.  I used it once on half the room to test and no amount of money could make be use it again.  It works fine for what it is, but why would I vacuum with a Dyson when I have an array of Electroluxes and Hoovers which actually CLEAN the carpet?

Nice! But this DC07 does not have any seals in the soleplate. Is the soleplate damaged? How is the internal hose? Are the cyclones washed out? My DC14 origin with a full strip down (including the cyclones) and seals in here soleplate and new internal hose made it work like a suction cup on hard floors and it lifted the mats off the floor!

DC07 is not a bad vacuum. However the new DC41 is a MUCH better machine and much more improved vacuum in pretty much every way. You will be impressed with one of these new 700w Dysons

Pas note how that pad filter is really shredded with carbon dust, but the perimeter is white. This is a budget dc07 and still has good filtration, but in comparison to the HEPA Dysons, this is blown out of the wayer

If you have Hoovers and Electroluxes, one begs the question in what you expected for £30, JM!

I have seen similar Hoover Juniors with the similar clogged problems due to average ownership. No difference to really how abused this Dyson is. You will probably get a good price for it if you sell it on. I'd keep it on the basis that one day you might just run out of bags for your other Hoovers or you might just fancy a change, or having something "modern" in your collection.

It's nice to come up with found money like that. When I lived in an apartment complex, I used to grab vacs off the dumpster--mostly Dirt Devils--replace bags and belts, clean them up a bit, and sell or give them away. The ones I sold netted me around $15-$20 each after my expenses. One of the last ones was a baby blue Dirt Devil Featherlight that I gave to my church. I was in a Vestry meeting when we got a request from the Altar Guild to purchase a "lightweight vacuum with attachments onboard. I offered mine for free and three years later, they're still using it to vacuum the sanctuary in preparation for Sunday services.

My last dumpster find was the best--my Kirby G6. That one made me an instant Kirby fan and permanently put me off plastivacs.

I'm sorry?  I never paid £30 for it!!  In fact, that's what I'm asking for it for sale now.

I did not say that the clogging was due to it being a Dyson at all, but I will certainly be selling it on the basis that I would never change my mind on Dyson and the the fact that I will never run out of bags for ALL my vacuums, and if I did - I'd order more and wait for them to arrive.

Was that whole pencil actually lodged in that hose? Wow! Reminds me of the time I worked on a lady's electrolux diamond jubilee. She said it had no suction and she thought it had a bad motor. I ended up removing several pieces of wood as long as a ruler! When I finished, it had pretty impressive suction for a braided hose!
