One of my favourite things is finding a great cleaner sitting on the street, by a dustbin or sticking out of a skip (that's British for dumpster!). So I'd thought I'd share two of my best finds. What has everyone else found?
On the left is a circa 1958 Junior 1334, which has an alloy hood rather than the later plastic one which came in around 1964. I was driving home one night from a takeaway, and for some reason decided to take a back street, which I never normally do. And I found this machine dumped outside a garage. The only missing component was the handle release pedal rubber, but everything else was there, including the bag, which is made from some kind of rayon, and gets snagged and torn easily! It has always run well too.
The DAM type cleaner (actually a Convertible 1124A over here) was sat in a street not far from my work. One of my workmates and I had gone to a cafe for lunch when I saw it on the way there. I grabbed it straight away, and it sat by our table while we had our food, much to my workmate's (and the waitress') amusement! One of the back wheels had collapsed, and had literally worn flat, so I had to carry it three quarters of a mile back to my work - exausting! It still had a 1970s grey paper bag in it (which had been reused many times judging by the look of it), and the motor was full of dust bunnies, which would probably explain why it got so hot when I ran it! but it has been sorted out now, and I am very pleased that I found it.
