I saw an article on Facebook which I can't seem to find, it lead to another website and I though it would just be any old rubbish most of us would probably have heard before but it said things like "Vacuuming too fast" and "vacuuming in different directions" and I'm like wow, sounds good. Anybody else got any other tips or seen this article?

Always pull your vacuum backwards at 6 inches per second. Push forward at one foot per second. By showing down on the backstroke, you give the brushroller time to sweep, beat, and clean the deeply embedded dirt and grit from the depths of the carpet pile.

I almost always tell folks they are moving it too fast and be sure and overlap. Also before I shampoo, I do it north/south, then east/west, to pull up the nap.

Whatever vacuum I use, whether it's a Root cyclonic Dyson or something not as powerful like a straight suction cylinder or something, I always vacuum fast, I really don't know why. However, I do go over areas of carpet where dirt is stubborn for example a straight suction cylinder struggles with strings and hair, so I have to go over the same spot again, or dsmething like burber carpet which is uneven, even up upright vac struggles so I either have to go over it a bit slower or pull the hose and wand out

Normally

I try not to vacuum too fast or too slow; my vacuuming pace is somewhere in between. Yes, I do overlap my strokes.

Before I deep clean my carpets, I vacuum at a slower pace than normal, to make sure that I get as much surface dirt as I can.

The Hoover Company published a bulletin many years ago that gave the correct speed as 12 inches per second forward, six inches per second backwards. Works for me, and then I only have to make one forward and one backwards pass over any one 'line' of carpet. I also don't use my shoulder when I vacuum, nor extend my arm. I hold the machine, and walk forwards and back. Saves MUCH effort.
