I was able to bring a Miele Upright home from the vacuum store today, to play with and run through the house - to better familiarize myself with it.
...Yeah, we'll call it that. :-)

Overall, I am very impressed with it! It really is very different than anything I've ever used - speaking strictly on its maneuverability.
Otherwise, it feels like a Miele. Solid, powerful, well-built, quiet.

It's got a really long cord, the hose stretched nearly all the way up my stairs (I was able to get the top stair with the wand extended), it lays very flat, does a great job on bare floors, the LED headlights are really cool - bright - it's not terribly heavy, heavier than I would have thought, but it operates so easily that the weight really isn't noticeable.

I may have to buy one... *sigh*

Enjoy some pictures!
(Sorry they're kind of grainy)

Please do a more detailed review if you have time.

Would you purchase this machine (at retail) over other similarly priced upright makes/models? Does the swivel feature provide a REAL benefit, in your opinion? Bag size? Dirt path?

Yay! I got to take home a new Mieleupright!

Fred,
Vary smart looking vacuum. It has interesting wheels. Is it easy to push on the carpet? Seems like I have seen a tree like that somewhere else-I wonder where-haha.
How would you compare it to the Hoover Windtunel on the carpet?

Am I allowed to ask. . .What's the price point for this machine?
I was just wondering because it was asked if it were a "Riccar Radiance/Simplicity Synergy killer?" I know their price point and was just wondering if the Miele was in that same ballpark?

Purchase Plan

I am going to purchase the S7 Tango or Swing, not sure which color yet, in a couple of weeks. I just sold my S5 Capricorn Canister on ebay for $799. It was only 11 months old, with about 57 hours of use on it. I was sad to let her go, but this new S7 is really nice. I'll post pictures once I get mine.

David-

To answer your questions:

Would you purchase this machine (at retail) over other similarly priced upright makes/models?

No... Personally, I would not pay retail for one of these machines. The model I brought home retails for $899. For that money, I would rather pay for a Miele canister. I've really become attached to my Miele canister - spoiled almost.
And I'm not terribly familiar with other uprights that range between the $700-$900 price points.

Does the swivel feature provide a REAL benefit, in your opinion?

I don't think it provides much of a benefit - other than the fact it's extremely easy to operate and maneuver. If you've every tried one of the Dyson Balls, there's ZERO comparing the ease of use from one to the other. The Miele wins, hands down.

It seems to have a standard 13" cleaning path, and the bag is a true "top fill" -- probably holds about as much as a Hoover "Y" bag.

Kyle:

I don't have much experience with the Riccar/Simplicity. So I really can't say for certain. The vac store I work at IS a Riccar dealer, and they do have a Radience on the floor. I pushed it around once, and although it was well built, and seemingly easy to use - I didn't think it was anything special.

From the little I know about the Riccar's pricing, the Miele I think is at a slightly better price-point. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Miele. But, don't quote me on the pricing. I don't remember what the Riccars are priced at.

Thanks for posting those pics Fred. I think that's the most beautiful model out of all of them. Aren't the new Hyclean bags wonderful?

Forgot to say...

In my opinion its simply the best upright out there today - no contest......

The only slight downside is the weight but in my opinion it feels VERY solid and well built!

Seamus

P.S Over here the range is priced from approx £249-£349 mine retails approx £319. I got trade cost less display discount on mine :)

Seamus -

I got to use the bottom of the range S7 today. I have to say, it is a darn fine machine but I don't think it's the best upright out there today. The weight for me is a serious issue. I'm not particularly strong and my house is a 3 story, 4 bed so that would be a big issue for me. I think the weight is the only thing that makes me prefer the Sebo Felix to the S7. I can't really compare the X series with the S7 because they're totally different cleaners. So for me, best upright goes to the X4 with the Felix in at close second and Miele just behind that. If it was lighter, I think I would prefer it

After months of reading about the upcoming release of this machine i'll admit i was a little underwhelmed when i saw it.

First thing i would do is match the filter cover to the body. I've been staring and staring at the machine trying to figure out why i dont like it and its that ugly contrasting filter hatch! That swivel feature and those mechanized rear wheels look like trouble. Do i see a cleanout port on the rear of the machine, beside the hose inlet?

I do love the integrated tools on back and that looks like a better agitator than Sebo. Imagine it cleans way better than Sebo X. But Sebo brushes all the way to the edge...

We need to get this machine into the hands of a YouTube video nut. My opinions are subject to change!

Hey Fred great pictures! Gotta love the versatility of a vacuum like that. It looks like its got a really good brushroll! I love it when companies go out of their way to make their vacuums quiet. I really like the picture that shows how long the cord is (very clever!).

Have you had a chance to use the vacuum on bare floors yet? It looks like it would do a good job! Thanks for posting the detailed pics!
