I have a Windtunnel SP Premium bagged, but its in rough condition (see photos). The handle release is loose, various parts are worn or cracked, the cord has a split in it, and the edge groomers as well as the brushroll are pretty worn down. Also, the dirt sensor stays on dirty even after cleaning it. Do you think it is even
worth it? Thanks.

I would say no. In my area, there are many, many WindTunnels on CL that one can buy cheap.

Just looking quick, I see a one for $50 that was bought a year ago.

(Husband bought a Dyson)

On these modern plastic vacs, parts can get expensive. I recently parted out a Kenmore Progressive, since many plastic pieces were broken. It was not worth replacing them.

The CL list below is all Hoover WindTunnels :)

An excellent Hoover! I gave my parents one for their anniversary many years ago.

My advice: unless you enjoy refurbishing vacs, you could save a lot of time and money by buying one of Hoovers new T Series uprights. They have performed extremely well in Consumer Reports testing, are far lighter than the SP Ultra you have, feature an easier bag change system and a more usable attachment hose. They also have the WindTunnel suction channels in the brush roll chamber for improved carpet cleaning. I think you can get a brand new one for under $250 now. Both the blue version and the red version offer excellent deep carpet cleaning.

The red Hoover WindTunnel I recommend is Hoover WindTunnel Max UH30600
(Price range: $164.98). The light blue one is the WindTunnel T Series Pet UH 30310. Both seem to offer very good value for the money. The dust bag changing system is much easier on these new ones than the one on your older WindTunnel where it's difficult to see if you've seated the bag collar securely. With the newer system, I think the bag comes off when you remove the bag door.

Well it looks gorgeous and they're top rated in cleaning

Brush roll and edge groomers wouldn't be bad price wise. Would be cool to find an older Genuine Hoover manufactured brush roll over the newer CWP ones.

I wouldn't worry much about rug guards being broken on the baseplate as long as the main plate is in good shape and not cracked.

I've never worked on a Windtunnel Self Propelled but I'm wondering if the release could be fixed by replacing the handle release pedal? Chance are plastic is wearing somewhere and it's not catching right.

I researched part numbers on Hesco Inc. Then I got prices from Discountcleaningproducts.com, a trusted vendor that I've used a lot:

--- Agitator: 48414069: $11.84
--- Edge Groomer known to Hoover schematic as Litter Picker:
39511004: $2.20 for one x2= $4.40
--- Cord 46383331: $14.41
--- Handle Release Pedal: 38434023 (models post 2001): $1.80
Total: $32.45 + shipping guestimate $6 = approx. $38.45

In my opinion that's not bad for an excellent performing cleaner like a Windtunnel Self Propelled in such a gorgeous shade of blue too! Hopefully the self Propelled actuator arm works properly and hasn't been affected by the handle release issue.

The tool door is what looks like part number: 37257250 which is no longer available I didn't search eBay for it. I can't verify it fully either without your exact Hoovers model number. I posted a link to one on Amazon that claims it's used. There is a vacuum shop in upstate NY that would have it used/ maybe new.

I guess it's your call based on the information you received so far!!

Keep us posted on what we else we can do for you!!
