Wondering about this new, cute little dyson

You know that new dyson? The little tiny one? The one that can fit in the palm of your hand? I was just wondering how googd of a cleaner it is... Some people have told me that because theyre small, they probably dont have good suction. But, theyre not exactly vacuum savants. Ive never used one so i honestly cant tell. Could i hear some opinions?

You mean the DC-26?

This little fellow keeps drawing my eye whenever I see it. It's so cute and compact. I just wish it had the motorhead nozzle.
The versatility of that Pinocchio telescopic wand is phenomenal...and useful in the extreme.
I haven't run one yet but being a Dyson I expect it'll pull the paint off the walls. We have a spankin' new Vacuum Store in town so perhaps I should take over my vacuum gauge and test drive it.

It must have been developed for the Japanese market where space is at a premium but I can see it being an excellent all-around daily driver for Condo & small apartment livers in North America.

Now I've watched Jack Copp's video I want one that much more...someday.

DC26 City...

I have had the opportunity to play with one of these at my local Best Buy a while back.

It is very small but still fully functional. Although it doesn't have quite the power of its big brothers (DC21, DC23) it still has plenty of suction. IMHO still more than several of the competition further down on the shelf. Very versatile and it serves its purpose well.

The turbine head for it isn't very big but seems to handle its tasks with no issues. There is a new bare floor tool which comes with it that swivels from all angles. Really neat.

The best recommendation to anyone interested in these would be to try one in person if possible. I was impressed with it and do plan on purchasing one in the future.

So, there is a Motorhead version!

But only available to the Japanese market so far? Best we can get is the Turbinhead with the "City"? Dammit!

The all new Dyson DC26 "Japan"

Dyson today took the wraps off compact versions of some of its vacuum cleaners that are specifically tailored to fit the smaller Japanese homes [JP]. Chairman James Dyson said in Tokyo although the vacuums are Japan-only at this point, they may be eventually made available in other markets as well.

All three versions of the DC26 (DC26 motorhead complete/turbinhead complete/turbinhead entry) have strange names and are around 30% smaller than base models. Sized at just 205×320×266mm, they are comparable in size to a sheet of paper in A4.

The turbinhead entry costs $750, while the turbinhead complete costs $820. Buyers of the high-end model, the DC26 motorhead complete (pictured above), will be set back $900 when the vacuums hit Japanese stores on April 10. Dyson expects to sell 250,000 units a year.

Really?! Great. Thanks, VW. Must be Canada that is lagging behind...or it's on it's way. I don't see the Motorhead DC26 on the company websites.

Sidenote: I did notice that the MIELE S-7 uprights have been removed from Canadian Tire Stores after a year collecting dust (in the wrong sense). They did not sell well at all.

Gonna check out the SEARS Canada store for the mini DYSON this afternoon on a 'just maybe hunch'.

Just to clarify - there is no Motorhead version of DC26 currently on sale in the US - just the Carbon Fibre Turbinehead. The Motorhead and Turbinehead look almost identical at a glance, so it's easy to mistake them.

good machines but the inventor is more than appalling...

while Dyson vacs show some good collection of innovations, I simply detest James Dyson himself. Such a self-centred being, such a "booo-haw-sniff" - "they stole my patents" whiny, such an egocentric self-concerned wannabe "genius", yuk! I HATE his commercials, his scenario about himself, his voice. A duplicate of the Apple story with Steve Jobs as the new Messiah. Just plainly disgusting, both of them. Good products are one thing, bad taste is another... (my 2 ct)

I am very sorry to shake your perception of the world, still I do disgust what has become from James Dyson and Steve Jobs alike. Both do happen to have developed wonderful products, both along have happened to shift their business to more believing "them" instead of the quality of their products. This is what I call unqualified and persona-oriented behaviour. Both their sales shows show that. To me SOME of the computers of Apple seem good and only SOME of Dysons's products seem good. But not all of them per se.
And that is what you call hysteria? I call it keeping a good cool.

Why should I change my perception of what Mr. Dyson has presented himself to me but through the media? This is what I see. Again: Disgusting.

Perhaps you have met him in person, I haven't, so what? (Not that I would specifically would like to).
The way he pops up here is media-centred, self-centred, egomaniac.
Please check his TV ads here. I stick to it: Appaling.

And from what we have to see here (from what we are forced to look at here) I can only say: I am more than glad to never have to meet him. All I can see is that I won't buy any of his products. It just feels repulsing to me (notwithstanding that I find his Air Blade hand dryer quite ingenious) - yet when it comes to Dyson, I take a GOOD fair distance.

Let's be ok, you like all of it, I simply don't. Can we leave it at that? Would be a fair deal.

I'm not asking you to change your perception or opinion on anything - just the inflammatory language you're using to share it. James Dyson has always been a controversial figure - his success has won him as many enemies as it has admirers. It's of no surprise to me there are many who dislike him. Steve Jobs doesn't really come into it for me - as far as I know, his company doesn't make vacuum cleaners. I have an iPhone, I like it... I have a PC, not a Mac... all I can say there, really!

Just a reminder, though, that no one's "forced" to look at anything here: this is a forum for the discussion of vacuum cleaners. Specifically, this particular forum is for the discussion of modern vacuum cleaners - a category into which Dyson machines clearly fall. If Dyson's products - due to what you think the person who designs them MAY be like (and you can see three of them in the videos I posted above!) - cause you so much personal distress and revulsion, you don't have to read threads that concern them. Why subject yourself to such mental torture?
