Will there ever be another Constellation remake?

Do you think we will ever see another Constellation remake? The new Constellations didn't stay long. I know it would have been cool if they made one with a Windtunnel power nozzle. But I guess the design just wasn't practical enough.

The 'remake' didn't sell that well. Canisters are not 'in fashion' with the buying public at this time, especially a canister like the Hoover that blows dust around on floors, and blows dust out of the carpets. People today want bagless uprights with on-board tools.

To tool up to manufacture a machine is expensive, and even though the Connie was made in China it still must recoup its start-up cost. I don't think the revamped Connie ever did. I sold them in my store when I used to own a vac shop, out of ten sold, one got returned. The turbo brush was fairly ineffective for cleaning deep carpets. Hoover should have had a power nozzle, but for some reason chose not to.

The china-made Connie also ran quite hot. The exhaust air will almost burn you.

I think it's for the same reason that there won't be a revival of the Royal 311 heavy duty/commercial straight-suction upright cleaner, which was first produced in 1945 to replace the model 130, and discontinued in 1987.

They should try to reintroduce the Royal 311 to COMMERCIAL customers-they were good for basketball-gym floors and hard surface dance hall floors-they could clean these quickly and effectively.Bet the commercial folks would want them.Royal could also offer the dump bag for this as well.I haven't used Constellation machines-figure the orig models didn't run "hot"you would have to vacuum areas first where the machine was going to be set-I suppose holding it than putting it down once you vacuumed an area to put it down on.Those did get the bad rep as "dust blowers"I don't own a Constellation.Would like to try it.

never be another Connie reissue....it's a dead horse. Consumer interest has changed and shifted away from canister vacs like that. Sales on the last reissue were dismal.

But it appears the current market demand does not look favorable for the near future.


 


Though I love the Connie, and want one of my own.  The design which faces the exhaust downward is counterintuitive to dust collection and retention.

Actually.....

the exhaust pointing down can work in your favor as far as shooting 'dust bunnies' out from under things. But it's a dated design and doesn't coincide with modern HEPA filtration. Plus for whatever reason, the US Connies don't have a diffuser to collect carbon dust from the brushes, as did the Euro models.

Big article in Yahoo news this morning how millennials are killing traditional retailers and even the golf industry. They have very different tatses from my generation and the vast majority are not interested in canister vacs.

I think all of the new Constellations did have a filter on the exhaust, it was just the old ones didn't.

There is a Youtube video of a Brit chap fixing an older Connie and it has the diffuser...which all the Euro models probably had or at least that one.

I really like it (not supposed to say 'love' here anymore because it's not 'educated' mechanical speak).....whole thread on that (really?!).

The naysayers report that the machine follows you too easily. Well, you have to be a Connie person to laugh at that complaint. I wish my older Connies floated this well and were this controllable. The motor is a bear...yea! Yet quiet compared to newer canisters. The hose could be longer on the Pearl White models.....you don't get a chance to extend it 15ft unless the canister is caught on something.

I was expecting Hoover's modern day cheesy floor parts and they are not at all. Space limits me or I'd have two or three more. Whoever thought this reissue through, really did their homework. But you can't make the masses of millennial's buy something like this.

Just....

finished the house with the reissue Connie. If you are a Connie fan, I don't see how you could not like this one more than the originals. The motor is more powerful, better protected; motor filter, HEPA bag and exhaust carbon brush filter.

No more pulling the vac to you, as it's always at your leg like an obedient dawg. The bag seals to the vac MUCH better than the old system. The HEPA bag itself fits very tightly into its receptacle....again, better than the original.

I do respectfully take issue with Dave's claim of 90" water lift. I get 80" out of the box with the exact same tester he uses. Furthermore, I can't find this 1/4" hole in the handle they are talking about....unless I'm having a Captain Obvious moment, I don't have the hole. Soooo...no hot rod modification to make for me.

This is my first run with a 'notched' bristle floor brush. Definitely better than the Elux floor bristle brushes of lore, but still not a perfect design. That modern, last iteration of old Connie floor head I have is the best I've seen for dawg hair and the like on hard flooring...edge cleaner and all.

Now...if I could just find somewhere to hid this vac in this tiny house...lol. I'll probably have to take something to storage....again.

Future Royal All-Metal Straight-Suction Uprights

Should Royal ever bring back anything like the 311 I mention, being straight-suction, with a 10-amp motor I think the suction would be really, really enormous as well as the pitch and tone of the cleaner!

I really think a true suction only upright like a Royal 311 would be good for homes with all hard floors and the folks that maintain gyms,basketball courts and such would like these.They were fast and effective.
