Why are Aerus/Lux Type C Bags So Abudant and Cheap Compared to Other Vacuum Bags?

Well

I'm not sure who makes the bags I bought on Ebay; I put a picture up of as the other person did. They certainly are not the blue genuine bags or the germ grabber bags, but they are really good bags.....It has been a while since I've wiped the bag chamber area so I decided to get a damp cloth and wipe it out just now and there wasn't any dirt at all in it (even in the nooks and crannies)...so they are good bags!! If I had done that with my Kenmore can, the rag would be black. You can visibly see the dirt in the bag chamber area.....Not so with my lux and these bags.

Before I thought about the older style genuine bags, I did buy the DVC bags and they are good bags. I just kind of prefer genuine, not only with vacuums, but other things as well.....that's just me.....

Those are the only bags I will buy only because the Aerus guy slipped & telling me why NOT to buy them so I have been & here's what he said:

The 4-ply bags filter better then the original blue ones the company switched to hence less dust in the machine, no visits to get the cleaner fixed...that's what it comes down to.

The first thing he did when I brought mine in was to open the bag compartment to see what bag I had in there, saw it was a new 4-ply bag took it out & threw it away, looked inside saw it was spotless & said NOT to use those because they were not genuine Aerus bags & would damage the motor so I asked him how if the compartment stayed cleaner with the 4-ply then the originals & he gave me some B/S story, changed the subject to the after filter not being original too. I had a phone call, excused myself while I stepped outside to handle the phone, came back in & heard him talking to someone on the phone in the back saying that he had another one in with non-original bags & filters & that my machine was spotless inside & how is he going to sell me original bags aren't that great. So I had a look in the pail...half the bags in there were still good 4-ply bags he had taken out of customers machines.

He comes back out not realising I overheard him talking & I asked him for my bag back because there was nothing wrong with it which he refused so I reached over to grab it where he said it was property of Areus now & I said really?? Sweat is now pouring off this poor guy so I grabbed my machine & took it before he said THAT was property of his his store too. I asked him why's he getting rude & was asked NOT to leave come back ever again, since I didn't know what I was talking about. I told him I not to worry & was going to tell me friends NOT to come here which he said I couldn't do....SO

Here comes this elderly lady with a Olympia One who walked passed me as he's still screaming at me, I asked her what was wrong with it & she said she was bringing it in for service. I opened up the exhaust put my finger round in there to see how much carbon was there, not much opened up the bag compartment 4-ply bag pulled it out....clean as a whistle. I told her it was fine, but she said HE told her to bring it in twice a year so it wouldn't void her warranty ... I looked at her & said that warranty expired years ago & that you were being ripped off. She told me she thought so also he was charging her almost $100 for bench charge, by then I was furious, put her bag back in & closed it up, asked her how it was running she said fine & she had gone someplace else to have it looked at & was getting a second opinion. I gave her mine & she was very happy with what I told her & left. Now..

He's just glaring at me saying he called the police to have me arrested now mind you I'm in the parking lot..public place was not in his place of business, so I said I'm waiting bring them, also you might need an ambulance for yourself as you don't look so well. I patiently waited 1 hour...no police I told him thank you for a pleasant experience & have a great day!! and left..

Went back there a couple days later at night to have a look & back room was a mess (I looked through the front window which he had the door open & light on) like some child had a temper tantrum! Machines scattered everywhere that were once nicely arranged in rows along the wall I mean he had a turn!! BUT in the window was a Help Wanted sign.. I laughed & thought ain't no one can help you in there..fast forward went by there again at night 8 months now & place still looks the same except for dust is now on the floor & machines in the back, looked like no machines in for repair & the Help Wanted sign is still in the window a bit sun faded now, papers scattered on the desk...looks like there might be a new sign in the window soon.. For Rent!

I use the bags that Human and mark40511 use, but they cost so damn much at my local shop. I ended up getting 5 free bags with my 1954 LX my uncle bought me, but im not going to use one of them. The company is out of business and its worth some money. Not for sale, though. I NEVER use HEPA bags. They can overheat the motor and you loose a beautiful machine. It happened to my cousin's epic 6000. the repairman said dont use hepa, it will cause motor issues. Fine by me, the generics are cheaper

I'm surprised about the HEPA

I usually feel the machine is breathing easier with HEPA bags. Now I am talking about the Blown, cloth like HEPA type bags as in the new Platinum.

I do like the 4 ply paper bags for the reason mentioned, they are so cheap that you can afford to throw them away 1/2 full and always have stronger suction, of course, I tend to empty/replace the bag long before the any of my machines tells me too.

Vacuumlad1650

Good lord, expensive at your local shop? That's interesting since they are so dirt cheap on Ebay.

It's funny, as long as I've had my Lux, I've never waited for it to tell me to change the bag, so I don't even know what to look for. I guess the bag lid pops out or something. I see to recall reading a couple of posts about people taking the bag out of a Lux tank canister and it was packed like a brick. I couldn't imagine letting a vacuum bag get that full.

Mark, you asked "<a name="start_29381.328295"></a>Would this mean that it's sealed? Not hepa sealed obviously, but sealed otherwise?" regarding your Epic 6500. I've taken apart an Epic 6500 to replace the power switch before, and these machines are definitely not HEPA sealed, which you already agree to.

My machine was filled with very fine dirt inside which kind of coated everything. There seems to be a gasket between bag compartment and the motor/fan, but this is just pressure-fitted, not sealed or even screwed or spot glued between the two pieces. You literally just lift out all of the components inside of these machines. This is likely where the dust in my machine escaped from. The blower housing on the back of the motor is a much tighter fit. On a superficial level, I would say that the machine is quasi-sealed at this point, and maybe half-ass sealed at the bag compartment. It's sealed well enough that you can't feel air escaping, but super fine dirt will eventually accumulate inside of the machine.

Which version of the 6500 do you own, and how long have you had it?

The Guardian Ultra was HEPA sealed. I imagine that a revised gasket was probably glued to the bag compartment and the motor, and I'm sure something was likely altered at the blower cover/motor connection, either a better gasket, better glue, or a different cover altogether. Either way, there's no reason why the Legacy didn't inherit the HEPA setup. It's been widely reported that the Ultra HEPA filter even fits inside the Legacy exhaust cover, so it's a no-brainer.

I've attached a picture from evacuumland or somewhere. It shows the bottom of the machine. Hopefully all of this helps a little.

Oh, and I agree with hnz that the combination floor tool should be standard on the Legacy, and really on the Classic too. I think Aerus has been using the cheaper 1-sided floor tool for a long time, since the early 1990s anyways, but it's a nice little retro piece that helps the brand stand out. They should just throw it in. Another random tidbit... the Ultra (which cannot share wands or tools with any machine other than the Platinum) originally came with a 1-sided floor brush, but somewhere toward the end of its run, the combination floor tool was added back. Kind of stupid that the Ultra and Platinum share hose ends/wands/tools with TriStar. I'm sure it was a plot so that owners couldn't use their old Electrolux tools and would have to buy new tools.

Thanks for letting me know

about the machine. My is an epic 6500 in grey color - that's all I know about it. I got it off Ebay a few years ago from an online seller from Maine who owns a vacuum shop there and a store on Ebay and is always selling vacuums. A friend of mine also bought one from him. I think it was like 220 dollars I paid.

HEPA exhaust filters will fit the Classic & Legacy; but I dont know if the cover will fit correctly over the HEPA exhaust filter

Is there a HEPA pre-motor filter for the Classic or Legacy?

Here's a surprise (shock?) from a Hoover guy......

Yes, the door pops open and the the bag comes out when it is 'time to change the bag'. Yes, I KNOW this!! lol I have friends who love Electrolux. I have a friend in Philly who was very ill after surgery a few years back. I offered to clean his house for him. All he had was a gold electrolux with a powernozzle. Yep, I cleaned that whole home with it. The minute it was turned on, thatbag popped out. I thought that was clever , a cute feature, if you will. So, he changed his bag, colostomy, and I changed the vacuum bag. THe vinyl braided hose was worn to bits. He FINALLY had that thing serviced.

As far as bags go, I ALWAYS use GENUINE filter bags.

I buy!

Every pack I see at estate sales and thrift stores, yes the Perfect bags are better, but I change them so often ...and I find so many genuine Elux as well as Multi Filter bojacks, I just use them, I bet I have 20 or 30 packs, some from the 70s brand new.

OMG

John Long, you actually touched & used a Electrolux vacuum? What happened to you not using vacuums that were "other species" other than Hoover?

Quick, get me the smelling salts! I think I'm going to faint thinking John used a Electrolux without rubber gloves :-)

Rob

Don't worry, I'm sure he went through a chemical bath when he was done!

I'd venture a guess they're cheap because they've been used in every single canister vac that Electrolux produced since the 1950's, and thus the companies that produce the bags haven't had to re-tool with each generation. Any patents on the design of the bag have long since expired as well.
