I was talking to the contractor and building head engineer to see if I could score some of those lights. We have to see--Gov't,you know.Frankly--the new LEDS are MUCH better than the mercury lights-they give off a warm,4K light. The LED lights you must have seen and NOT liked were those like Wal-Mart uses in their parking lots--the Cold,6 K blue ones. These that are being put in look much like metal halide.I like Mercury, too. And flourescent bulbs are being replaced inside the building with LED ones-so far they look fine and put out MORE light--and with both of these--no flickering. They used both GE cobraheads and Westinghouse Silverlines-do have one of those Silverlines at home. Its the one I put a 400W HPS ballast in becuase the orig mercury ballast was blown. The lighting project is being done By Duke Power(our electric supplier)and a contractor that works for them. Can't guarantee I can get some of the lights-we just have to see. Some of the yard light wiring has to be replaced-bad conduit and cables-they are over 50 years old!The orig lamp posts are being reused, though.Glad there are some other Flashoholics on here!Guess I must be weird---to like the new LED lamps better.Look up American Electric Lighting-they list the one we are using under their LED street and parking lot lights.AEL offers two color choices--the sick blue 6K ones or the warmer--nicer 4K ones that make everything look better rather than like Zombieland.Don't know what the maker of the LED flourescent bulbs are--to use the orig fixture and lampholders are used-you bypass the ballast-run the 120V right to the bulb sockets-the LED retrofit bulb runs from 120V.Also will be interesting to see how long these new LED light systems last.We all know mercury,HP sodium, and metal halide HID lights are pretty reliable.
