When I took German in high school, the teacher had a little placard on the bulletin board that read "Alle guten Dinge im Leben sind illegalisch, unmoralisch oder machen sie dich!" which translates to "All good things in life are illegal, immoral or fattening". To that I would have to add that moderation in all things is definitely advisable.

Yes, moderation

is the ticket. Life is a banquet, and some are starving to death.
Live, Love, Eat!
The French use butter, cream, and drink wine. Wine cuts fat. Red wine has tanins, which are anti oxidants. Not too much now. A little does the heart good. I cook often with wine, and olive oil. Most of the alcohol evaporates. Garlic too! It's good for the ticker. Cook it slow, and it gets buttery sweet.
Stress is the worst killer out there.
Heat a bit of olive oil in a skillet, the add some wine and watch what happens. Not over 350 degrees f. High heat changes it to a saturated fat.
Now who knows of a northern restaurant that serves fried green tomatoes?
Guten Tag! Das sonne hat im der schwarzwald bei shinnen!

Too many US dieticians-they consider the French Diet is LETHAL- to them-BUT----Many French folks live LONGER than we do!Stress could be a big factor here! Its thought now BUTTER is BETTER for you than margerine! And butter TASTES better!Tried the Smart Balance stuff-went BACK to butter the SB stuff was HORRIBLE!!!And I LOST weight!!!

I will take green beans with bacon over the green bean casserole any time. Green bean casserole is good but one of those things I just don't miss if it isn't there.

Side meat is good with many other vegetables as well. But then I grew up on southern style cooking.

That's the problem, nowadays, nobody thinks! If somebody had a original thought to enter their head it would most probably blow off!

Sooooo,

Does that mean if I only eat healthy salad and continue to enjoy my Marlboro Red 100s and double Stolichnaya martinis that it will even out and I'll be just as healthy?? Lmao😂

It's true though that France has one of the highest smoking rates in the world too but they also very long life expectancies, some say it's because of all the red wine, some say it's because they are more active. Has anyone seen that commercial that states "sitting is the new smoking"? They say an obese person who doesn't smoke is still much less healthy than a smoker of normal weight.

I definitely agree about the fake butter too, it's disgusting! And it's a very artificial yellow colour that doesn't even look real. Real butter is 100% natural, whereas margarine is made from hundreds of artificial food preservatives and additives, several of which were used to fatten up livestock during WWII. Even though margarine "may" have less fat, it's still much worse for you. The fewer artificial substances we put in our bodies the better, there is something to be said for eating an organic diet, it also tastes better most of the time for sure.

I'm usually very careful about what I put in my body

(snickeing, I hear?????)
I'd much rather eat butter and sugar than processed stuff.
I've NEVER smoked, OR tasted alcohol. Who knows? I might get killed by the ice cream truck!... Imagine: John Long succumbs ...death by motor vehicle, while music played in the background,, and a Nutty Buddy dripping down his face.
His vacuums will be available soon. Details to follow..
I have NO intention. lol

You're actually the picture

of health. My bp has been up and down, cholesterol is OK, I believe. Other than that (head issue), I'm pretty alright myself.
I bake a lot too. My grandfather had a bakery and taught us hot to make wonderful things. And, although I'm not Italian, I live in a very Italian town. We were taught how to make great Italian food too. So much so, that people have asked me, "Which side of your family is Italian"? I reply, "Neither".

One becomes over weight not because of good food, it is the indulgence in eating too much good food. Many of us do not exercise portion control, myself included! Having lost 30 lbs over a three month period I was successful sticking to a weight loss plan M-F and having a cheat meal on Sat. and Sunday. Sometimes the cheat meal was Friday night but never more that two cheat meals during any given week.

I notice

many who live in a warmer climate and get out doors more during the winter are more active, and seem healthier. Less cabin fever. The northeast winters are harsh.
Must make an effort to go to the gym or exercise. Then who wants to drive in inclement weather? Stay in and eat, or occupy time with hobbies.
