Whispertone 90

1962, as some of you know this is one of my Holy Grail vacuums, the 1961 Whispertone is pink, has the very first pistol grip hose ever, and has the L shaped power head, it is a two speed machine, and has the distinction of being the 75 th anniversary machine for Sears, Jimmy Martin has a 1962 Whispertone 90 which is in effect the same machine, here are some pics.

A BIG clunky thing, but I would trade just nearly anything I have for one!

Makes it special, the bottom , most Kenmores of that time have a simple metal; cover over the motor, with a hole for the blower, the Whispertone has a flocked exhaust that is a rectangle, but inside is a insulated baffled chamber around the 2 speed Lamb motor that cuts the noise down to a whisper, it is as quiet or more so than a Model G Lux or a Filter Queen.

Jimmy does have!

A power nozzle and L shaped hose for the 61 model, which are the same for this one, all but color, but we couldnt get to them to take a picture, he had a leak and had moved a bunch of stuff, so they were buried for the moment, but now you all know what im looking for!!!

Oh yeah...

The base of the machine is fiberglass, just like a boat would be made of.

Those old Kenmores are awesome; I've never seen one in person. I saw scans of a brochure once and immediately wanted one. I wonder if they weren't big sellers, or were subject to some attrition that other old machines weren't? Or am I just looking in the wrong places?

Oh ....

Its not going anywhere, Jimmy wouldnt part with it for any amount! I would give almost anything for one.My All time dream machine!

I've had one of those since the late 70's - a friend of the family gave it to me. They are a very good machine and you had the option of either buying it with the regular rug nozzle (as mine was) or the powerhead.

Note that the dusting brush on these ones was triangular rather than oval.
