I recently bought a "Whirlwind Cannister vac to add to my modest collection of antique vacs. It looked like the early Electrolux sled and I thought it might be an Electrolux knock off since Whirlwind was one of their trade marks. It came with a whole slew of attachments and a good hose - which I hoped might fit my Electrolux.
Plugged in, it ran but made an infernal racket, as if something was batting around loose in the motor. I then tried to get the motor out of the casing, with no sucess.
It is bolted in with 3 bolts thru some L brackets at the narrow end of the casing. Removing those, I can push the motor all the way up to the wide end of the casing, where it hangs, apparently on the large rubber gasket that seals the space between motor and casing.
Two days of pushing, pulling, tilting, prying - still stuck. The only way I can see getting it out is with a tin snips.
Any advice?
