I have a friend who cleans a few houses a week to supplement his income. He needs a more appropriate vacuum than the one he currently is using. He is using an Electrolux Prolux commercial vacuum that I found for him on CL for 25 bucks a few months ago. It's also his personal vac (he traded a Kirby G4 for this one, the tranny the Kirby was going wonky anyway). The thing is that sometimes he needs a hose when he's cleaning. I offered to buy him a portable strap on canister or a set of attachments for the Prolux (he's got a birthday coming up and he would appreciate a practical present that would make things easier on him), but he said no. He doesn't want to have to carry the attachments or a separate machine... lots of times he is working in condo complexes and going up 3 flights of stairs. That's just too much to deal with. He told me he wants to just be able to pick the hose up and suction there while he's using the upright and them stick it back on and continue vacuuming.
I immediately thought of Panasonic, specifically a model with a "quick draw" wand. I want a model that has a metal brushroll and sole plate (I think they are easier to push and more durable than their plastic counterparts), but it's not a requirement. The only requirements are that it be bagged, have the quick draw wand, and have a brushroll shut off.
I don't know much about modern Panasonics, so I thought I'd ask you all for your expert opinions! Which model should I look for that has all of those things. He knows how much I love my Dyson and I would have recommended that for him but he needs simple simple simple.... he's not good with gadgets and even I have a hard time fiddling with the telescopic wand so that's out the window!
Thanks!
Off topic.... this friend (Larry) was showing me around his home town and there's a guy in the down that collects junk. He has an Edsel car parked right in is carport. Plus several plastivacs, but also an Amway ClearTrak! It's sad because it's out in the weather and getting ruined, but I think that's kind of a rare vacuum and I'd never see one in person before. I almost fainted! I almost stole it lol! Just wanted to mention that.... didn't think it was worth starting a whole new thread for!
