The Dyson DC41 Animal is the newest one and looks like the most solid model they have in the Ball and Animal Series. From what I am hearing is that it really combines a lot of their other models, and then better suction power and a larger dust bin.

i hate to be "that guy" but i will chime in by saying that dysons [period] are medeocre at best.
the statement that "dysons never loose suction -even a tiddly bit-" is a flat out lie. i just serviced a DC17 with no suction. i thought "clogged hose" checked that out nothing. then i thought "the fill tube" nope, the cyclone itself is so packed there is no suction, you pull it off and put on a new cyclone and the power is back.
anyone who has serviced a dyson's cyclone will find that there is a immense amount of fine dust buildup, recent machines make it so you must remove the permenent silicone gasket to access the cones, the whole process is a nasty dusty hour of work.
it is true that dysons dont loose suction when new and clean, put some miles and buildup on it and it will suffer. ALSO the huge reason why it looks like you picked up so much gunk and doesnt loose suction even when full is because it keeps the dirt loose and fluffy, ANNNND the volme you can take up in the bin is teeny tiny because it holds that huge cyclone, so even full there isnt much gunk in there to restrict flow.
they ARE easy to use however they are very very difficult to repair.
they are fun, cool looking machines with neat commercials, however the machine as a whole is no better than the eureka boss it sits next to at wal-mart. (i actually think the eureka is better)
in the end there are MUCH better machines out there for much less money, but! who else makes a million different models in a million different colors with a million different commercials?? no one, THAT is the key to dyson's success and appeal.

Weather it keeps the dirt fluffy or not is not the point , you don.t have to spend a fortune on bags, in My house we used to fill a milele vac bag twice a week. Lots of animals
I have a vacuum shop here in SA and we sell dysons And other makes and are the Dyson accredited service agents for SA. the reason why the cyclones get clogged is that people overfill them. My oldest dyson a dc07 has never once had a clogged cyclone yet I get about3 a week in for just that. customers are lazy they make it so easy to empty the cyclone and yet they still wait till its overloaded.
I worked as a vacuum design engineer and even the company I worked for ( probably the biggest appliance company in the world ) admitted that the dyson was way better than there products.( internally of course)
I have spent most of my life working on designing and testing vacuums and nothing I have ever seen comes close to the all round convenience of a dyson. There are some that clean better but they use bags and those bags loose ther suction after each room you vacuum. So they only clean better in one room if that!
Here in SA like everywere else in the world the people who knock dyson and other bag less vacuums the most are the vacuum repair agents, wonder why , OH YESS thats why they loose revenue from selling bags
Bags are the bread and butter of a vacuum shop , repairs take time new sales are ok but you can make more money off bags in a day than sales of new vacuums there is no trying to sell the customer a vacuum , its just I need bags for a ...... and bam money made. Its good revenue for me too , especially miele bags but I won't bad mouth a machine just because it doesn't use bags , allot of the bagless vacuums out there are pretty alright to aslong as you clean the filters.
Its a trade off but its your choice

gsheen couldnt agree more, bagless isnt for everyone, but neither is bagged? Personally i cant understand why any would want to buy bags, plus i like to see what i have picked up. But thats just me!
The DC17 was probably so bunged up as the seal on the inside of the drum at the bottom of the cyclone had probably being pushed up. So all the dirt is sucked up into the cyclones instead of been spun out of them.
Ive used dysons for years and suction has never been an issue, unless the machine had been used to clean up alot of fine dust like plaster and soot. Wash the filter and away you go
I find most of them (generally the uprights) versatile> they attapt to different homes well. (i used to run a cleaning service)

I have a DC28 AirMuscle and a DC23 turbine head. I love them both, but I use the DC23 more than the DC28, as our main living areas are hardwood floors... I would definitely use the DC28 more often, if I had large areas of carpeting to vacuum.
Andy W. came to visit about 2 weeks ago and we hit Macy's at the Mall of America; we saw the DC41 and gave it a good going over -- even plugged it in and popped its cherry. We were both very impressed with the DC41. Much more thought out than the previous versions of the Ball uprights. I kind of want one.

I can't wait for the dc41 to arrive here. I have a dc23 and we are suposed to sell them in our store but I never have, the turbine head is not very reliable we repair and replace them allot. I love my dc27 really nice and MY new dc15 australian model. really nice colors. Much more powerfull than the uk versions I've had

It works better two better built aswell. these were the last ones made and were still available new at the beginning of the year.

i had a dyson dc04 silver and lime ought in january 2011 and its going strong, good condition! btw im new to vacuum land im gettng a dc01 soon dc25 soon maybe dc05 motorhead i also have dc07 animal plus a dc08 orign love them!!!

I have to say actually, I have just come across a DC04 absolute (purple/lime) I forgot how much I like these machines! Not to work on though!
And it has to be the early ones, with the black dot and arrows on the clutch instead of the tiny plastic finger. The ones with the black dot don't have vents in the brush housing, so stick to the floor in use. Plus the brush rolls have more bristles on them!

I will throw my hat in and say the DC23 turbinehead canister.
OK, it's the only Dyson I've owned, but it works very well for me. Carpet cleaning performance is great. The filtration is excellent! We're moving into a house that's primarily hardwood in the next year, so I'm excited it will be in its element. Just bought a Flatout hard floor attachment for that time.
I like it a lot. Seems to have a lot of suction!
What's the failure mechanism of the turbinehead, by the way? It was mentioned that the brushes over rev if engaged but not used on carpet.
It's too bad the hose isn't engineered to be longer. Dusting high places is very impractical.
