I have been busy with my scanner this morning. Which is our version of "Consumer Reports" - this report covers several machines which are now very rare, although I can only think of one which is not in a UK collection that I know of

The Hotpoint is the one that I dont know of in a collection. I would have said it could be of German origin as the later models were, but it says made in Britain. I have a Kenwood, and Rob and Paul snapped up a Hollandia last October

McDonald

Hi All

This is the 1st time I have ever seen the McDonald here. i do remember they were cheap one thing I have always wanted to know is was this a proto type Oreck

You are indeed correct. MacDonald Electric produced the Oreck CVR/XL-4000 series for Oreck. But the predecessor to the Oreck was actually the Whirlpool CVR-2000 & 3000. Oreck bought Whirlpool's failing vacuum cleaner line in 1963. Mr. Oreck gave licensing agreement to MacDonald Electric to produce the machine, and overseas it bore the MacDonald Electric name.

Interesting stuff Alistair. It's fun for us over here to see stuff from over there.

wait....yeah that's right.

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought to myself - did 1973 have more than one October?

So the oreck's gone from the cheapest vac on the market to what it is to-day. COSCO are selling the HD model and I thing it was about £400 I have never owned an Oreck but did try one out in Harrods a few years ago when i was looking for a new daily vac, But i was not impressed and got a Miele with a PH still have that but I use a SEBO felix as the daily
