I had a bad expirience with dyson after I got my dc24 but with the recent talk regarding dyson canisters I am willing to give them one last chance but I can not decide between a dc23 or the new dc26, I need it mostly for a secondary vac that I can use when I feel like using a bagless vac or to clean out the car or for when I feel like using a canister, any comments welcome, the only problem I can see is with the dc26 and that the small turbobrush will bog down too much on my thicker rugs.
Thanks!, Scott

Turbo Brush..

The turbo brush shouldn't bog down. It has some kind of thing going on where when pressure is put on it, it actually speeds up! That is how the turbo tool on my DC14 is, and it is great! I actually use it to clean rugs that I can't clean with the upright itself.
Hope this helps,
Chase

Hi Scott - out of interest, what did you dislike about the DC24? With regards to giving Dyson 'one last chance' - there will always be new models to try, even if you end up deciding the current range is not a good fit for you.

Out of the canisters you've listed, DC23 Turbinehead or DC23 Animal (same spec as 23 Turbinehead, but supplied with mini Turbinehead as well) are probably your best bet, but they're not overly-aggressive carpet cleaners, so bear that in mind. American forum members who own DC23 will probably be able to advise you on what carpeting the Turbinehead works best with.

You're correct in assuming that the DC26 will not be well suited to thick rugs, although it is perfect for hard floors, and 'above floor' dusting tasks.

The Turbinehead uses a clean-air design. Most of the airflow is drawn through the soleplate, whilst some is drawn through the turbine, driving the brushbar. When the Turbinhead is used on dense fabric - where less airflow can pass into the soleplate - more airflow is drawn through the turbine. This causes the brush to increase in speed, rather than simply slowing down, like a conventional 'turbohead'.

Well..........

Thanks for all the posts! I was kinda leaning tward the dc23 anyway but as for my dc24, I dislike the tools, the hose is super short, it does not seem to remove the slightest amount of grit from my carpets, pushed things like cherios on hard floors and low capacity and I cant get under anything. But thanks for the advice I think it was also some bad planing on my part because now looking back I probably needed a bigger dyson in the first place. Well thanks again!

which Dyson?

Scott,
From my own use,I can tell you the turbin head for my Dyson dc23 has been a very positive experiance. I have used it to clean carpets that regular uprights could not be used (example-50's shag cotton carpets and flat commerical carpets).
I would say mine works ok and better than expected on my plush carpets. It does not slow down like other turbine nozzles I have used (Hoover Connie and H20 vac)
Jack is telling you the truth, when the nozzle would SEEM to slow down is when it speeds up and it is fairly quiet.
I have had my Dyson DC23 for about a year now and would still give it a very postivie rating. I love the Dyson Tool design.
The bin is easy to empty. I do think the hose and the power cord are a little short and the machine has an unpleasant pitch to the mootor (compared to an Electrolux G or Connie).
You also have to not mind flying dust when you empty the bin.
I would buy one again and it is much easier to use than my Dyson dc07 upright. It does not seem to lose suction. Dyson tells the truth about their products.
If you have not tried the Dyson soft dusting brush it works great on blinds and for dusting in general and their floor brush seems to do a very good job on my wood floors.

Dyson canisters

I own the DC26 and the DC23 Motorhead. Before the DC23, I owned a DC21 Motorhead, which is very similar to the DC23 and which I gave away after getting the DC23.

They aren't similar at all in terms of their carpet cleaning abilities. If you're underwhelmed by a compact Dyson, don't get the DC26. The turbine brush doesn't perform well on carpet. Honestly I'm a little disappointed in it myself, but I bought it mainly as a portable to use on surfaces other than the floor and just because it's interesting because it's so small.

The DC23 Motorhead is an amazing canister by any comparison. The DC22 Motorhead might be just as good and a little smaller, but it's really expensive. Fred S. has a DC23 with the turbine brush. I can't talk about that model, but he could.

Which Dyson?

Scott,
After I read Patrick's post I may need to clairify my response.
I have the DC23 Turbine. I love the machine and I feel like the Turbine Nozzle works very well and it has surprised me on different carpets in how well it works. That stated, it is NOT going to deep clean a plush pile carpet like my Kirby or older Hoover Upright. I think it is the BEST Turbine nozzle I have ever used and has very good suction as any Dyson.
Like Patrick, I had a Dyson canister with the electric power head which I returned. I found the brush to be too aggressive for my carpets and did not care for the wand set up. I cannot comment on the DC26, although I like how it looks.
