wheres the switch on the ge roll easy

In looking at the Vac of the day I got curious. Where is the power switch on the Roll Easy? Is it a push button or toggle? An someone post a picture? Also, do any of you print the pics of the Vacs of the Day to decorate the walls of your collection room?

I used to wonder that as well. However, the switch is located on the END where the cord attaches. The cord is removable, and the switch is nearby. Due to the nature, design (or lack thereof) of the female cord end, many of these cords went bad early and it is difficult to find one with the beautiful, orginal turquoise cord. Charles Lester's Roll-Easy on his website shows a gorgeous machine AND cord with both original ends!

Gawd, that's a fabulous looking vacuum cleaner isn't it. That's what you get when you hire a top-drawer industrial designer. You can look at vacuum cleaners over the years and readily tell which ones were designed by industrial designers and which ones were not.

As for the switch, well, if the switch on the Dyson was as obvious as it is on the Roll Easy, and there wern't so many other bumps and lumps and knobs and ridges to deter me, I could have found it right off! Maybe Mr. Dyson needs to hire a Freda Diamond or a Henry Dreyfuss or a Lurelle Guild ... )smile(

Charles don't feel bad about not finding the switch i was the same way too and couldn't understand why the brush roll weren't turn but it turns once the handle is down

A GE Rolleasy would cost $493.64 based on the advertized price.

...And if it was re-introduced, it would certainly be worth it and I'd be one of the first to buy one! Those GE Roll-Easys are such cool machines, and another one I haven't yet used or seen in person. It's a shame, really, that the concept of it never caught on and that they're so rare.

Speaking of hard-to-find switches my Eureka 'Super Bradford' has it mounted right in the back of the machine, next to the cord strain relief. And my 70's Quik-Broom has it mounted on top of the motor, however, it's not positioned towards the front where you can see it easily.

Its also hard to find the switch on a Koblentz upright-its in the base-activated when you move the handle down to the operating position.

Ah yeah

I remember trying to figure out how you turned on the hoover powerplus, it has a similar setup to the koblenz.

Then again I remember looking for the on switch on a hoover turbomaster (innovation in the US?)

when I grew up

We had an 80's Singer uprights and a few Kenmores with that same switch in handle set up... very interesting.
