Where do you buy vacuum cleaner light bulbs?

I was looking for the dual contact twist-lock style bulbs (I think the base name is bayonet). I thought Lowes used to have these but they've moved their light bulbs and I couldn't find any specialty bulbs. Home Depot had them but only in 50 W which is way too large. I think I need a 7.5W lamp?

I remember as a kid I had a Hoover Elite (this was the push in type bulb) and my parents got a new bulb at an appliance store, but I bet they'd be more expensive there.

Do you guys just get them online? Also what do you think about LED vs incandescent? Worth it to go LED for this or stick with the tried and true?

I also read on some threads about people replacing bulbs and bulbs were too short or they burned out quickly, is there a certain wattage or voltage that lasts better?

I've known a lot of people who just go to a vacuum shop and buy one. That's how I do it.

Hardware stores sometimes have them. I have had luck finding them at Menards They used to stock an LED one as well but they're no longer in stock. I have put the LEDs in both my Lux upright and in my Rugmaster plus power nozzle. Is it worth it? Eh the convenience of not having to replace it sooner is nice, they're bright too and don't give off as much heat but it's all about your preference really.

It's a ten minute ride

and good exercise if I jump on my bike and head for the local sewing and vac store. Always free shipping too! I think I paid 2.50 for a Kirby bulb old style last time I went in there.

Some people here have switched to LED bulbs and Les is a good source of info on what works best. Some LED's are better quality than others. Some people didn't care for the extra bright light the LED's put out, saying it just looked wrong on a 70 year old vacuum cleaner, so it's a matter of taste.

I'll try some of the hardware stores then. We don't have any vacuum cleaner repair shops in my area. Might have a sewing machine shop though.

I pick them up at Menards, they come in 15W and 25W. You can also get them at Vacuum Cleaner shops.

I believe a bag 15d double bayonet dual polarity is the LED light type. I think 3617 sylvañua is the original bulb.
I have links I can share for lights. If you just need one I'd go to the parts store. I checked my parts stores and I no luck.
The bulbs on kirby's, hoovers, eurekas, royals and basically any bulb through current sanitaires use the same bulb. Hoover and kirby stopped in the early 70s. Royal if it had. Headlight it's the same bulb all the models use.
Id stick to at least 12 watt light. The lower watts don't pull enough power to keep the bulb on.

Someone here a month or two ago has an Electrolux Epic Who’s power nozzles didn’t seem to be propelling forward nicely. We suggested a new brush, they changed it and it fixed the problem and he also posted near the end of the thread that he changed the light bulb to an LED one since he had the power nozzle opened up. I asked how he liked it and if it was brighter and he said it indeed was much brighter and nicer and a nice crisp white. So the LED seemed to be a good upgrade and it worked on the Electrolux power nozzles. I think the bulb in my Aerus Lux Legacy power nozzle is LED, it is very white and bright, brighter than my other Electrolux power nozzles that have incandescents in them.

1000bulbs.com has all sorts of light bulbs and you should be able to find almost anything you need. I’ve bought some hard to find unusual decorative bulbs there. I like 2200K in my outdoor lanterns for example because they give a true yellowish light very similar to a gas lantern or true candle flame color. The standard 2700k is still too white but the 2200k is perfect...I am just now beginning to see the 2200k in a few stores but not many. I found the 2200k at 1000bulbs.com years ago.

The good thing about going LED is you can go to a brighter brighter equivalent without using too much wattage or generating damaging heat that would normally occur if you used a larger wattage incandescent to have the light perform better.

The old bulb should have a wattage stamped on the socket, either ink or a metal stamp.

You might call the sewing machine shop that you said was nearby. My mom's old Kenmore sewing machine has a bulb just like the Kirby's 120V bulb, so other machines may have lights also.

I know I am one of them. Too lazy to turn the light on when entering a room when cleaning. Sometimes the room light does not go where I need to see anyway - always in a dark area it seems.
I want to avoid sucking up something that is either wanted or can damage the vacuum impeller or brush roll. I also want to make sure I did not leave any black lint on the carpet...

And if vacuuming in the dark is not crazy enough, I had to outfit my lawnmower with bright lights about 10 years ago. We were in such a horrible hot spell I could not go out to mow until 10pm or so!

You can

also get a lot of bulbs especially LED at your local automotive parts store. You may have to cross reference a particular light but they always have a chart or something for that. The older Kirby bulbs can also be gotten there as they used a pretty common bulb that cars used.
