When's the next rainbow going to arrive?

I have a single speed E series. I'm not impressed with the air flow or suction with that one. The only time that improves is if you remove the hepa filter. I have cleaned the filter and may need to buy a new one. Thankfully I only use it to vacuum the halls in the building I live in during the winter months. My Mother has an E 2 and I can't say that I have been impressed with that one either.

From experience with the 14.5' hose there seems to be no noticeable difference in airflow or suction, with the 30' hose the air flow is a little less but still enough to do the job.

I've used many many canister vacuums. The Rainbow is not the strongest of them but it certainly is not the weakest. I owned the newest Rainbow E2 Type 12 and it is significantly improved over previous versions.

Carpet grooming performance is beautiful.

That said I did have issues with the HEPA filter on mine. It would get clogged and DRASTICALLY cut down power. The distributor I worked for that I bought it from too didn't even really understand the issue of the HEPA clogging so he installed a new one for me on the machine, on the house.

It very well could be an issue with hard water in the house. I had terrible issues of scaling on the basin and separator. A hot water Vinegar soak was the best way I found at removing the scale. Dawn nor other dish detergents did anything for it.

About every 2 weeks I had to soak my separator, the nut and basin to the rim in hot water with about 8 ounces of white vinegar.

I would also recommend checking your HEPA.

I hope this helps you because in my experience of vacuums, this Rainbow really did impress me. Comparatively there are TONS of machines over the years I've tried and refuse to work with due to not meeting my fussy cleaning performance desires!!

I don't recall saying that the power head on the rainbow was not good, though I will say it seems very gentle and those side brushes get damaged unless I store mine with the brushes off the floor. And there is no height adjustment.

Yes, I agree that Rainbow has adequate power, but it isn't great. A member of this forum recently did a test of rainbow and several other well known brands, both suction and air flow. Rainbow was at or near the bottom of the pack in every test. Wish I could locate the thread. I do not have hard water, scaling or a clogged filter. And I don't dislike the machine. It just takes some setup time and does not have super suction. it has a great selection of tools and does things other vacuums can't do such as washing floors and wet pickup. But I will say, in my experience, the shampooer isn't as good as a dedicated Hoover steam vac. It doesn't scrub very well, gets clogged gunked up with dog hair and the water retrieval is hampered by the middling suction.

I like the machine. It does many things and doesn't stink like dry vacuums. It's just not for everyday, quick use and it's not a powerhouse. Mine will not be leaving my collection anytime soon.

The E2 Black Rainbow has 3 different kinds of brush rolls, soft, medium, and stiff the last time I checked. I believe the one it comes with is the medium brush roll.

You are correct!

What you stated is actually something that amazes me. I used to sell these machines and my distributor never informed myself or anyone else that I'm aware of to this fact!!

It was only a few weeks that a collector on a Facebook site mentioned that he got a new brush roll for his new style Rainbow power nozzle. Goodvac.com is the website that lists the various options.

Would have been nice of my former Rainbow distributor to inform us of more info regarding the machines and options available!!! I do not regret leaving the crooked jerks.

Yes the side brushes are available as well. $3.70 from Goodvac website. I posted a link below to the power nozzle parts page on their site.

I tried the Aquamate carpet shampooing on one demo. It did a reasonable job but was multiple steps with the operation and not as efficient as my Hoover Steamvac Widepath. I would agree to that.

I would hope that after a good vacuuming the Aquamate wouldn't find much if any doghair. So I'm surprised that is an issue you're having with it!! In my experience a thorough pre-vacuuming is one of the most important steps of the carpet shampooing process. Sometimes I use 2 vacuums.

You are lucky with not having a hard water issue. It's definitely an experience with the Rainbow that definitely lets a user know how hard or soft the house water is.
