I was wondering if any of the rainbow dealers or experts may know when the next rainbow is arriving? It seems like the current model has been around for some time now.
I'm thinking about going down to my local distributor this week and buying one. My luck, as soon as the 3 day cooling down period is over, the next generation with come out.

We are uncertain of when the new machine will arrive however we usually find out when new things come out when the world meeting comes about. I have heard that there might be some new attachments. Again not too sure but that is what I have heard. The new rainbow is rather easy to pull and as far as storage I usually let mine run after use to continue cleaning the air, the rest of the machine (power nozzle and hose) gets stored away. It would definitely be worth it if you want the new rainbow, it does an amazing job on various carpet types, all floors and surfaces.

When I attended my local home show, I was told that Rainbow has made some improvements to the current model. They claimed they had modified the software to make the machine adjust better to different carpet types, particularly the plush carpet.

I know that the power nozzle was modified at some point to move the belt from the center to the side on the power nozzle.

I would try to make sure you get the latest version of the current model. It will likely be a very long time before the next model arrives - but I have no inside information. Perhaps an insider could let us know about any changes that have been made recently...

Rainbow

I do know that Rainbow has added new attachments throughout the run of the current model (Minijet comes to mind) and they also changed the Power nozzle as stated above. Around the same time the Power Nozzle changed, the red indicator light was added next to the hose port.

I could see Rainbow potentially downsizing the machine, as there is quite a lot of dead space inside the body. However, I really have no problem with the vacuum the way it is currently. The cord could be longer, but the longer hose and improved power nozzle, along with the updated dolly really improved the system.

I've heard others saying, they wish had it had a little more power. I'm sure it's sufficient. It seems like most canisters today are cracking the 100" water lift mark. I'm surprised a rainbow is hovering in the 80's.

Compared to

The old ones it is a regular jet!! Seriously, the new Rainbow is plenty powerful enough!

rainbow suction

@kencart - I would have to disagree with you about the suction. I own the latest version and although I really like the machine, it does not have great suction.

I vacuum a lot and it is not a machine I'd take out for daily use. Setup and cleanup takes to long for a quick run-through.

But aside from a central vac located in the garage, it's the only vac that never smells bad and in fact freshens the air as you use it. And not with that fake 'I added a scent to cover up the bad smell' that one gets by adding vacuum beads to the bag.

the only improvements rainbow has actually made within the last couple of years is the circuit board, there have been revisions of the board due to some failures, we have not had many come back through to the service dept for warranty repair. most of the issues that I come across on the boards are the thermistors and once in a great while a bad capacitor but again those issues are in a lot of the older models. the new boards are a lot simpler in the way they are built and I think the new machine has a faster start up than previous models. another change is the upper bearing on the armature, with the older E2 machines such as the blue or as some call it the silver I have had incidents where the armature was hollowing out where the bearing sits and the bearings were not even seized, again that has been changed, it almost seems as if the material for the bearing shell has been modified other than that the machine is flawless.

Interesting

I wasn't aware of any of these problems with Rainbow. I have a gold 2 speed brand new from 2006 with the foam insulation, and the suction is perfectly fine. I do know what you mean about it not being as strong as other vacuums, but it's still has plenty of airflow for cleaning. I'm sure they will find a way to make it stronger in the future. I think, as of now, they have to limit it or else water will get sucked through the separator (at least that's what I read a long time ago) And the smell, I LOVE the smell.

Regarding a new model. After they introduced this latest model, I too was wondering what else they could do? They have pretty much addressed things people didn't like about it...

You should try using another water filtration vacuum like Sirena or Hyla for a week or two. When you go back to using your rainbow, you'll feel like you're going back to a regular vacuum for quick run through's in terms of cleaning up/storage.

My Sirena just isn't as easy to put together, clean, put away as my rainbow. It takes me twice as long with the Sirena. I quit using it and stored it away. I now use my Rainbow.

I see nothing wrong with 90 inches of water lift and constant airflow. That's what my 75th Anniversary Edition Rainbow (2011) has, which is plenty. Rexair takes a long time to retire a model, consider the D4, (as well as the D4SE and D4PE) were basically the same vacuum cleaner - and Rexair made that machine from 1986 (their 50th anniversary) through 1998. I doubt there's a new Rainbow coming any time soon. Rexair just doesn't work that way.

Do you know what the current model's CFM is?  I know the D2 had something like 60 CFM, and did quit a good job cleaning just the same.

In comparison the Sirena has:

86.3 in. water lift

90 CFM High, 18 CFM low.

I am sure the newer Rainbows have more.
