I was at a Memorial Day BBQ this afternoon and a friend of the host told a hilarious story of his mother's infidelity. Somehow the topic of explaining to young children where babies come from came up in conversation and he chimed in with "I didn't need to learn about the birds and the bees because I knew about my mom and the Electrolux man". He grew up in semi-rural TN in the 70's and in those days Electrolux would still do in-home sales as well as make service calls at your home.

Well, apparently the Electrolux salesman in that area was quite the ladies man and a regular visitor as long as he had been alive. He said his mother was always trading in vacuums and then they were always needing service. He said there was a whole closet filled with bags and any optional attachments she could buy as well. Of course he was always sent off to play at a neighbor's house when the Electrolux man came around. He got wise to it about the age of 12 he said. He never understood why his dad never questioned why their vacuum broke down so often. He reckoned his dad must have thought Electrolux made the most unreliable machines on the market lol.

I thought the story was funny since you always hear about affairs with the milkman, mailman, etc. Who would ever have thought about vacuum salesman. I really wanted to ask him if he thought he might be the son of the salesman. It would seem quite plausible after all.

That’s hysterical! I wonder how many dtd vacuum salesmen had affairs with lonely housewives. Even Hoover and Eureka started out with door to door sales teams. Thanks for sharing!!!!

I will repost the YouTube clip from the “Love American Style” episode with JoAnne Worley and the jealous husband!!! 🤣

Love American Style

Used to watch that show all the time but somehow don't remember this episode. Thanks for sharing it!

LOL That type of thing happened from both sides. When I was service manager for Electrolux here, one day we had a lady call that wanted to buy a new vacuum. The manager (who was fairly straight laced) went to see her as there were no salesmen available. He came back about an hour later white as a sheet. Apparently the lady, who was not what one would call desirable, had sat through the demonstration then spelled out how she intended to make payments in no uncertain terms. He packed up and left. First and last time he encountered that (He quit not long after)

All of these "services" has happened with ALL DTD salesmen at one time or another. Not just 'Lux.And the salesman has and can be brought up on charges. When you are a salesperson in someones home you have to be careful WHAT you do!!!

Well, infidelity isn't a criminal offense and it was certainly a consensual arrangement going on... So I'm not sure what sort of charges you are referring to.
