I know hoover and electrolux ended production in the uk and made in chins when did this occur. O believe the quality suffered and they are not the brands they once were. Also what about electrical.safety and fake products

I think Hoover moved all production to China in about 2005 upon the closure of Cambuslang plant in Glasgow.

When Hoover had the free flights fiasco in the early 90's and had to be rescued by Candy, that's when quality started falling as Dyson was then on the scene and taking away sales from Hoover. Candy had to cut costs to maximise profits and that's the story of modern times.

I don't think Dyson are that good quality either and grossly overpriced for what they are - considering Dyson sacked most of  the factory workers in the UK  in 2001 when he moved all production off to the Far East to maximise his own profits and personal wealth.

to maximise his own profits and personal wealth

Not entirely true.

Dyson applied to expand the current premises at Malmsbury, but was turned down. That's largely the reason why production at Malmsbury ceased and the site now focuses on R&D, promotions, HR, finance, procurement and distribution. Although I imagine cost cutting was an added bonus.

Keith, what do you mean about "electrical safety and fake products"? Just because something is made over-seas, doesn't make it unsafe. Anything sold in the UK has to pass regulations, regardless of it's country of origin.

I believe Hoover/Candy still have a manufacturing plant in Portugal, also.

Sadly, cost-cutting is not limited. Everyone is doing it. Even Numatic, the only remaining British manufacturer of vacuums, have cut the quality of their machines to save on costs - the current range (although good) are not a patch on the quality of the older machines. Miele have had to put their prices up to keep quality high. This is especially noticeable in their washing machines, which have rocketed in price over the last 5 years to keep quality high.

So you mean that Dyson couldn't find anywhere else in the UK to build a bigger factory? A likely story. His move with production to Malaysia was ALL about maximizing profit and his own excessive greed.

Corporate greed has ben getting worse and worse since the 80's, and Dyson is no exception. He puts his own profits before worker's jobs in the UK - he proved this in 2001.

What made me angry a bit was when James Dyson goes on about British Manufacturing and i agree kept the prices high. But made them in Malaysia. The trouble he has is that the cheaper competitors such as Hoover Electrolux Vax and others are catching up fast hence the Ball on his vacs.

I have two Dyson But Glad I did not pay £300 as its no longer new technology and TVs PVRS go down in price not Dyson. I remember the Hoover Free Flights issue which was on Watchdog and the Money programme etc. I noticed in the USA very similar machines under other names are made in China. Hoover US was sold to the chinnese owners of VAX hence same machines with different colour plastic. I wish there was a Henry Upright
