i saw this Electrolux sticking out of a wheelie bin and decided to rescue it on getting it home i was suprised to find that its in good condition and just needs a good clean .It stinks of dog and SHAKE and VAC [has to be the most disgusting smell ever ]and its owner had obviously lost the clip that closes the bottom of the paper bag and had decided a bit of selotape would do the trick I think not .As luck would have it the two filters in the bottom of the bag chamberhad caught everything .the tube underneath was blocked up solid causing the brushroll to jam and burn through the belt so its time for a strip down and a bath

Made In Britain

When goods WERE still made in Great Britain, it was proudly displayed on the product. During the 1980's there was a great push to have this information on show on the front of products, be it permenatly like here, or on a sticker. If something was built in the UK, you knew about it!

I hate Shake-n-Vac

It goes by many names. One of the prominent ones here in the States is "Love My Carpet". I call that crap "Kill My Vacuum" because that's what it does. It cakes up the moving parts and because it's mostly sodium bicarbonate, it speeds the oxidation of most metals (can we say 'bearings,' boys and girls?) and significantly shortens the life of any vacuum cleaner unfortunate enough to be exposed to it. I would dare say a vacuum that never touches the stuff will last two, maybe even three times longer than one that encounters it regularly. Personally, I think it's a conspiracy between the baking soda and plastivac industries to sell more of their respective products.

Shake & Vac

Whilst I agree that this can damage a vacuum cleaner (though of course an appliance is there to be used), the Electrolux rescued from the bin here is about 30 years old, thus a very poor example of how the life of a vacuum cleaner has been reduced by using such products.

should be called shake and yuk its not just what it does to a vacuum cleaner its also that unmistakable pong it leaves behind [the smell of a dirty carpet with perfume mixed in ].you can walk into a house for the first time but you know immediately that the owner has been using the dam stuff
