Now normally, I'm a bagged fan myself. But there are a few bagless ones I do like. My favorite is the LG Kompressor upright, I have the luv200r model. I think it's absoutely gorgeous and it does a good job I feel. What's yours, and why?

As a collector, My personal favorite would be a green Fantom Fury.
What I think are the best bagless vacuums for residential cleaning would be: Rainbow, Filterqueen, and true cyclonic central vacuums (Vacumaid or Vacuflo). I don't mind filtered cyclonic models but true cyclonic models are easier to maintain.
What I think are the best bagless vacuums for commercial cleaning would be: Sanitaire (Both direct and clean air models), and a Cleartrak/Workhorse.
I don't know if shake out bag models would count as well but if that were to be the case, I would pick both Sanitaire and Kirby as the best ones.

I had always wanted one back from when they came out when I was still a wee teenager, obviously didn't have the money for it then. Before I got it I watched videos of people doing real world tests with them and they actually did very well, and so has mine. Word of caution though, if you get a model 200, they do not make exhaust filters for it anymore, so you have to get creative with some fabrication of sorts. Ones after that are still avalible.

I should add I strictly own (and use, when I can help it) Bagged machines. Though if it had to be bagless, water filtration is the way to go!

Filter Queen, Water Matic, Silver King, All water filtration vacs (Rainbow, Hyla, Sirena, Delphin, Thermax, Rotho TT, Big Power, Ocean Blue, Oasis. However they are still messy and not as superior as a bagged vacuum.

Out of my 4 bagless machines
I would say the Dyson DC14 is my favorite because it has the best nozzle CFM of this bunch:

My favorite would be Rainbow, filter queen, and Fantom. These all don't leak dust like most bagless vacuums and they are pretty low on matience compared to other bagless vacuum.

My 2000 Rainbow E Series, 1992 Filter Queen Majestic and my Fantom Thunders/Kenmore Destinys are easily my favorite machines. By the way, you have a very nice example of a Fantom Thunder.

The reason Quantum won't show you how to clean the separator is, if they DID, & you took it off to clean it, you would be disgusted with all the dust on the separator! And it's the ultimate proof water filtration vacuums don't work! Which is why many of them, including the industry leader, Rainbow, employ a HEPA exhaust filter. Quantum doesn't want you calling to complain about their product. Remember how there was a member here comparing the Rainbow & Sirena & how they found dust on the Sirena's separator & how it wasn't as effective as the Rainbow? It uses the same motor & separator as Quantum does on their machine.
The only one that's really effective is the Rainbow E Series....they seem to have perfected it. When I had my 2nd Rainbow, a E Series 1 speed, for a short while, it's Separator never seemed to get signifigantly dirty, nor was there much on the HEPA Neutralizer.

I prefer bagged retro style vacuums, but I have to admit that
Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away NV500 is my favorite.
It just makes vacuuming easy and quick. Lift-Away feature is clever and helpful for above floor vacuuming. Dust bin is pretty large and brushroll makes a good job. One bonus is that it's surprisingly quiet. Not too heavy either.

I know bagless is a dirty word here, and there's 15+ years of terrible bagless vacuums from every manufacturer to back up the claim easily. However I still believe the concept comes with many benefits when done correctly. My favorite bagless vacuum is still the old Dyson DC17. Dyson's first level 3 root cyclone upright sold (and only non-Cinetic upright). Along with the excellent carpet-cleaning ability, it has an admirable set of attachments on-board that few vacuums have yet to best.
The Dyson cordless line is a close second. Can't wait to get a V8!

@mike811 - there is certainly no denying the benefits of 'quick and easy'. I love my Dyson V8 for no cord daily cleanups. While no substitute for a 'real vacuum' (one that connects to mains power), if I had to pull out something like the rainbow, it sure as heck would not be happening every day. That sort of vacuum is for special occasions - namely the ones where I have plenty of time on my hands.

I second the Kirbys with shakeout bags. I use my early 60's 560 from time to time and it does a fantastic job with deep cleaning and the bag doesn't smell if kept clean. It's not used with greater frequency because it's a bit hard to push and doesn't fit well underneath furniture. While not the most maneuverable machine, but it's certainly nice to look at.
