Clearing up cloudy dust bins in bagless cleaners? I have a Dyson DC14 and a Hoover Windtunnel 2 with bins I'm unable to keep clear looking, even after washing them. They aren't scratched, they just go cloudy quickly.

I have found using a good foaming glass cleaner or furniture polish other than Pledge used with a microfiber cloth works really well. There will still be a little cloudiness to it but not as bad as one that has been used daily for years. There may be some one on here with a better solution.

Makes a polish specifically for the rubber and plastic components on vacuums. It works amazingly on cloudy bins as well as scratched and dull plastic. It'll only be temporary, and how well it works depends on the wear of the plastic, but you should see a large improvement with it. Just spray it on and rub in with a microfiber cloth.

I'll try some fiddling with different methods and see if anything improves. I like seeing the dirt spinning around in the bin (part of the fun of having a bagless machine) and when everything clouds up, it's not as much fun.

What you don't understand is that - The cloudiness is caused by exactly what you LIKE to see - The dirt and fine dust spinning around in the bin which cause very tiny (micro) scratches in the plastic of the bin over time.


 


What works best to make the bin clear again is any of those products sold in automotive stores for clearing up those cloudy headlights on your car. You might also try some ArmorAll or similar product.

I understand that spinning dirt makes

the dust bin "cloudy". More specifically, what happens is that after I wash the dust bin (even using dish soap), as it dries, it turns cloudy after a few minutes. It would be nice that between uses, it stays as clear as possible.

I will try Armor All and see what happens...

I use plastic auto lens cleaner on all plastic that I want to stay clear. They sell in kits, usually an attachment for a drill, a sponge thing you put the liquid on and then use your drill. I can polish anything plastic with this and have. The success rate will depend on how soft the plastic is(the softer, the better) and the amount of TIME you want to spend on the plastic. I once spent over two hrs solid, polishing out some plastic headlight lenses. They were HARD plastic, but I won the battle.


 


Back in the day, a lot of guys just used toothpaste as a plastic polish....this stuff is high tech and works wonderfully without fluoride...lol.
