What's an affordable vacuum with swivel steering?

Is the choice to go bagless yours or hers? Not all vacuum bags are expensive, especially if you buy them online. For a small carpeted apartment, perhaps the cheap vacuums will suffice.

If it were my mom, I'd go to a vacuum store and see what used models they have and you can try them out. There is no sense in overpaying. I bought an Oreck Platinum Pilot swivel vacuum at a thrift store for $20 and it has worked flawlessly for over a year and the bags are dirt cheap. In addition, it glides effortlessly across carpet.

The bagless choice is both of ours.

I've never been to a vacuum store. I have been to thrift stores, especially Goodwill stores, but I haven't found any vacuums that interest me.

Fair enough, but you should definitely visit a vacuum store and see if they have any swivel type models.

Wow I totally missed that.. mine pictured has a very nice carpet height adjustment so I found it easy to push, even on my plush carpet.

So thanks for clarifying and again, I meant no disrespect to you or anybody.. just throwing in my two cents! Lol

@niclonnic I would definitely stick with Hoover if you want a Bagless machine on a budget then.
A few major advantages with them.
Heavily discounted often
Local service centers for warranty!
Parts availability.

Though the idea of bags being more expensive than Bagless with filters is a false notion that's been proven over and over again.

@niclonnic definitely a good now do you just make sure you plan on changing HEPA filter about every 3 to 6 months they're rather inexpensive$10-20 the cotton filter that's washable washes clean when you're done vacuuming very very well. The Cyclone is also easily broken down for cleaning.
I used one of these as the store vacuum for about a year .

My two thoughts are:

1. Any reason for bag less over a bagged machine?

2. Wouldn't you want a machine where the motor unit is on the floor (like a Hoover Windtunnel as an example) and not having yours or her arms and back supporting the weight of the machine like many of the bag less machines?

1. The reason I want bagless is for the convenience factor. Bags have to be purchased, thrown away etc. I'm not fond of that.

2. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Most vacuums, including bagless, have the motor unit on the floor.

Cleaning filters and cyclones isn't what I would consider convenient but if you do more power to you.

As for the motor unit.Some of what is being described is just the power head is resting on the floor. Therefor most of the weight is in the upper part of the unit adding weight on the handle that the user has to support. The motor is in the upper part of the unit.

On a Hoover Windtunnel, Kirby or Eureka Sanitaire vacuum the motor unit is the base of the machine. Therefor most of the weight of the machine is on the floor and the user supports the handle and dust compartment/collection system.
