I am thinking this is from the 70s or 80s. I also find it odd that the handle does not match the chrome cover. Also, this cord has been replaced. I think the original cord is black.

The shape of the motor hood is very similar to the domestic Vanguard Box-Top upright 2070 from the early 1970's.

BUT: Eureka has been using that hood shape for fan-first Sanitaires right up until the present day. So this will really be hard to date unless some Vacuumlander has a spec sheet for it with a copyright date showing on the bottom.

The Dial-a-Nap on this unit has a unique triangular "gripper" on it. Very rare to see that on a Eureka. Though the knob could be a replacement, if it is original, it may help place a date for this vac.

It only has 4 adjustment settings, like my Eureka commercial vacuum from the early 70s. I would think this might be also from the early 70s as well, but it's labeled Sanitaire instead of Eureka. Also, it has a triangle shape base. And there are no air vents. The handle looks exactly like mine. I know for sure that cord was replaced. If you say it looks like a domestic Vanguard, it is most likely from the 70s. In the 80s, they had air vents already on the hood. There is a spec sheet from the website I found this on. It is hard for me to believe this has a 7 amp motor. I just won't believe it. Unless they made 7 amp motors in the 70s and 80s.

If it has a corporate model plate sticker on the bottom, you may get another clue: if it says Eureka Williams, then it is from before 1975. If it says "The Eureka Company", then it is from after 1975. And, if it says White Consolidated Industries, it is from after 1986.

Let us know what you find if you own this machine!

(Incidentally, the motor hood vents were rarely seen on Sanitaires - only on those with curved shaped 1960's style hoods. So the presence or absence of vents on this Sanitaire can't really help us date the machine....)

It's off craigslist. I am not going to buy it because I already have a commercial vacuum. I just like to see what sells on craigslist. I am searching for a Wards with this style, but for domestic use. But anyways, these are the specs the guy listed. It is impossible for me to believe this is modern, because it looks so old:

Motor - 7.0 Amps
Cleaning Width- 12 Inches
Bag Style- Cloth/Dump
Carpet Height Adjustment- 6 Position
Furniture Guard
Filtration System
Standard Micron HEPA Filter
Unit Weight - 17-1/2 lbs.
Cord Length - 50-ft
UL Approved (Commercial Use)
OSHA Compliant

The guy likely got this off the Sanitaire website. It has 4 height positions, not 6. And he does not have a picture of the label.
