Hoover Senior

The model you describe could be either U4002 or U4014 depending on whether or not it is yellow or green - the green one is most commonly known for its use in the famous Shake and vac advert. The cleaner you show is a bit of a hybrid, it looks like a Senior Ranger model but the handle is not correct unless it was a commercial variant, which there were. The bag is not original and they did not normally use that spring arrangement to suspend the bag.

If you turn the cleaner over you should see a ratings sticker with the serial number begninning with the letter U. The next four digits will be the model number so most likely 4002 or 4014. The next number will be the year of manufacture and the next two the month. The remainder of the number is the production sequence.

It is very unlikely your cleaner was manufactured in the US otherwise it would have a red toggle switch on the handle rather than a foot switch. If American the cable would not run down the outside of the cleaner. The other give away is on the baseplate is the text "Hoover makes carpets last longer" on the American cleaner the text is "Hoover makes RUGS last longer". There was one American model sold here for a short while - the 4003, it did actually use the spring arrangment you show but the cleaner was beige
