Some people say if you look on the undercarriage you might find clues suggesting when this vacuum was made.

The lack of air vents on the hood hints that this Eureka is from the early 1970's. By 1976, the low end Eureka Dial-a-Naps had cooling vents on the hood and a push button foot switch, not a toggle switch. These were also renumbered to reflect a 1400 Series model number by 1975.

The Harvest Gold colour matches the first Eureka Power Team canister in that colour, which made its debut in 1973. I would therefore date this vac at around 1972 or 1973.

Not only is that a rare New In Box Eureka Dial-a-Nap, but it is actually an excellent lightweight deep carpet cleaner! It would probably outclean many of the uprights on the market today. And in the 1970's, this machine probably sold for only $80.

You can still get this basic design in the classic fan-first Eureka Boss upright available now in stores...though this Model 2010 probably has a metal fan.

The Model 2010 is the low end of the upright line that ends with the deluxe Model 2080 which is the much sought after Vanguard upright with cordaway cord reel.

Indeed the circular imprint in the nipple on the underside of the vac should give you a precise month or week and year of manufacture...can't remember how the coding works though...

In 1974 (which is presumably the year of manufacture for this model), $80, adjusted for inflation, would be $367 today.

I might be off by 5 or 10 dollars. Take a look at the third post in the Vacuumland thread when you click on the link below....it gives you promotional sale prices for Eureka vacs from 1974, which I would say is a year or two later than Model 2010's year. The regular price of Model 1440 including a basic set of attachments is $85. This is for the budget Dial-a-Nap upright in the ad (4 position Dial-a-Nap, foot switch, new Edge Kleener notches in the nozzle sole plate). So perhaps the similarly-featured 2010 sold for $70 in 1972.

The ad reflects the corporate takeover in 1974 by Sweden's larger Electrolux conglomerate, as "Eureka Williams" is replaced by "The Eureka Company." This could also have allowed more liberal discounts in the Christmas promotions and sales campaigns.
