what year did this come out

The Vax 2000 came out about 1990 and the Powa 4000 wasn't far behind it. But then it was in production for a few years, I think up until 1995. I know the 2100 and 4100 were very much avaliable in 1995.

This one on Ebay has the original type of hose handle. When the 8000 series upright came out, Vax reverted to the type of hose handle seen on the last versions of the 121 series, and this extended to the cannister cleaners too.

The one shown in the Ebay listing looks like a slightly newer model to what we owned. Ours had a much thicker orange release valve, same as the one shown here. Also the switches have always been rubberised but Im unsure whether this one you have bought from EBay has rocker switches or push buttons.

The user manual looks far better than the big A4 sized one we got. I still have the user manual somewhere. Also came with the turbo brush and four plates on the underside for gliding as opposed to wheels.

That's the older turbo brush if it had glides, and would have been supplied as a freebie with the Powa 4000. Only the 4100 had the turbo brush as part of the standard tool kit, and even then it was in place of a combination head. This, I always thought, was a bit odd because it meant the cleaner had nothing for vacuuming hard floors. The floor mop attachement was also included as standard with the 4100.
