I have found about 4- 1. a Hoover Breathe Easy with no brush or bottom plate, motor works great, I still have it. 2. a Dirt devil featherlite that looks like somebody ran over the head with a car(good motor, I ended up putting it in another one I have) 3. a Dirt devil Vision that only had a clogged hose and a rock jammed in the brush, it is in pretty rough shape but has all of the attachments and works good, (still have this one too) 4. a Eureka maxima bagless that was almost new, but the filter was so clogged you couldnt tell it was pleated, still have it. I was just wondering what you have found.

Hmm...

Do you mean at all, or ones that we still have. I have found tons, most of witch I wish Id kept.
Right now I have only a few that were trash finds.
1. a green Hoover Elite with a hard cover bag
2. a green Hoover windtunnel non self propelled
3. a green(I dk what it is about green)Eureka bravo II
4. a blue Bissell bagless Featherlite, the newer ones that are still at walmart w/the power brush.
5. a gold/brown Hoover Celebrity straight suction.
6. a gray Electrolux Ambassador
7. a green Eureka F&G upright
That what I have at the moment that were trash finds. But throufg the years ive found many, probly in the hundreds if had kept them all.
I love rescuing vacs from the trash its almost like finding a treasure. =)

I have found and sold hundreds in the trash. I can find a hundred in a single year. I love going to visit Chad because we go trash digging man. I love it and now I have my Mom and sister involved and I can bring home 30 in a night. lol
I went there the last to weekends and found 15 the first weekend ( that's were the Kenmore Lifestyle II, Premier, and the Singer that I posted came from )this last weekend I haven't counted yet.

One time found a metal Royal-was missing the roller brush and bag-bought new replacement for it-don't remember what happened to it-think I may have given it to someone that I knew who needed a vacuum.Another time--in front of a house as I was riding a bus from work-A Kirby Classic and attachment kit on the kurb-when I came back to get it it was gone!Oh yes on the Royal the motor ran nicely-don't know why they thru it out-was on a curb in front of a townhouse.Other vacs I have seen esp in the area I live now-are in such bad shape go ahead and let the Leach or PakMore have a crunchy meal.Plastivacs.See really bad shape dirt devils,a Shark, and a Hoover.Really don't see all that many here.Think I do have a Shark canister of some sort-has a funky powernozzle-and its bagless.Quite a job to clean it out.also I spotted an empty Hoover "Z" box out on the kurb-with it a badly beat up Dirt Devil.

My greatest trash find was

My greatest trash find was when I was 7 and I found my first converible, which was a 1070 and the only problem was it was clogged.

Numerous machines have come in and few have left, I dont really find machines on the curb anymore, usually they find me because I have a friend who likes to bring them to me from the local Dump, mostly vintage ones come in though or machines with quality such as kirby, electrolux, kenmore, hoover, hamilton beach etc... most of the time they are clogged, other times they are flawless.

HOW and WHERE do you find such awesome vacuums in the trash. I have found about 4 in 10 years and only passed maybe 2 or 3 that I didnt pick up!

Well Dustin, you have to remember that everything today is relative. I can remember a time 20 years ago when I used to find Kirby 500's and Hoover Constellations thrown out aplenty, and with rare exception I picked them up. Nowadays, most of the vacuums which come from department stores are kinda throwaways to begin with, plus with the sorry state the economy is in alot more people are picking things up from the garbage, so us fellow vac collectors have ALOT of competition. I'll still find an occasional Electrolux here and there, but most of the cleaners thrown out today belong at the curb. Just my two cents.

your right about the competition. I have stopped to pick up vacuums before and had other people stop and say oh, I was turning around to get that, or do you want that because I could really use it. The sad part is most of them just want it to junk it for the wire and metal.

Saved some vacuums from the trash

I work at the local Oreck Clean Home center part-time. A couple of weeks ago my boss and I went over to the storage shed where there was some old trade-ins. He told me that what I didn't want was going in the trash. So, I rescued 2 Kirby Heritage II's, a Kirby Heritage with the small head, 2 Electrolux's--a 2100 and a turquoise G, and a rare Red Oreck Canister, the 2100 had the powerhead and everything with it, as well as the Oreck has the powerhead with it as well. Also rescued quite a few parts. The rest of it pretty much was junk. I also happened to find an Electrolux Silverado some years back, sitting by a dumpster, and it had the powerhead and hose, the whole 9 yards. I snatched it right up. All I had to do to it was just service the motor in the vacuum and the powerhead, and straighten the latch in the bag door, and put a different hose on it and it still is working to this day!
Pretty amazing, I don't see too many vacs in the trash these days, it's mostly junk if I do.

Hey Karl
you should move up towards binghamton, people have been throwing out kirby's, electroluxes, hoovers etc... I know someone who brings me machines from the dump left and right. usually I find a machine or four on my porch or in my garage a week

I've found

A filter queen majestic with power head , and a like new pink 80's panasonic, they both just needed a new belt and some love, it make me sick that people will throw away a cleaner that will run cricles around anything from wal-mart just cause it's clogged or needs a belt .... Stupid people. Ok I'm done ranting
^_^

Hey Mike

Im not far, where is your dump? Trash dump that is,Ill stand with a sign saying Deposit your vacuums here lol.
I know what you guys mean about things being time relative.
I found/passes so many nice vacs in the past, now that all the plasic is out, well thats all thats out.
Its very rare to find a Celebrity or Connie in the trash, But I see bagless Dirtdevils and Bissell's alot. Usualy pretty beat up.

You guys are lucky to be able to find stuff like that. At one time I found alot in the trash too but since our city has gone to an automated trash collection system using huge garbage cans you cant see whats in them. At the same time the idiots at city hall decided they would fine anyone taking anything out of the dump. After all you cant have anyone recycle their prescious garbage. <not impressed> This is the same people that complain about not enough recycling being done and too much going to the dump.

Yes Mike, you're probably right about that. If only I didn't have so much detest for snow lol! Do you still see alot of Hoover Dial-A-Matics thrown out up there? The last one I picked up a couple years ago (a mint green 1140) was the only DAM I've ever seen that needed a motor! Thrown out with it was a green Slimline with the hose but nothing else.

Trash Pickup

We get maps for the bulk pickup schedule in Winston Salem, they do a different neighborhood every week April thru August, Then we ride every street at least once a week, you would be amazed what we find, I found a nice Chrome model 11 mixmaster last year and a BRAND NEW Filter Queen powernozzle,in the box with the hose from 1978.

Hey Karl
no I havent found any hoover Dial A matics in the trash, however I have had other good finds such as a premeir (GE Swiveltop which I still have) a few electroluxes and the usual walmart vac. this week I have gotten a bissell bagless that is going to be cleaned up and sold and an older dirt devil vision. the Dirt devil I dont know what I am going to do with yet as it needs a cord, brushroll, bottom plate and filter.
