Hey there,
I was just wondering what everyone thinks of the new red Electroluxes. Do they have good suction and pull the carpet nap up well? Are they worth investing in - particularly the bagged canister or the non-bypass fold away upright?

What to think about new Electrolux's

I have the Electrolux Oxygen 3 canister. I love it. It's very very user friendly and easy to use. The way I explain it is that it is a Smooth vacuum to use. It turns on a dime because of the big wheels. It is very very quiet and the air is dispursed with out blowing dust all over the room like my Connie's. The hepa bag holds more than it would seem just looking at the size of the bag.
The machine I have does have the redesinged power nozzle and wands. Even the cord rewind is smooth and gentle.
As far as realiability goes I can't anwer because I am a vac collector and I take care of my machines.
I like the controls on the hose handle. You can adjust the speed, turn brush off and on or put the machine on automatic speed control. I do like the fact that the power nozzle has height adjustment and not the "floating" head. The power nozzle also has bright bluish led lighting and it's steerable under and around furniture. Another nice feature is that the power nozzle and cleaner both have rubber on their wheels to protect the floors, also both ends of the hose turn so the cleaner doesn't bind when you use it. And did I tell you that the machine is "QUIET".

I encouraged friends to buy the first version of the Oxygen

This is the one with the power nozzle shown in the pic uploaded by our friend Appliance Nut. The first North American Orange Electrolux version was model EL6988D and this is the model that has been top-rated by Consumer Reports for the past several years. It is still rated "excellent" at carpet cleaning due to the Eureka power nozzle. This retailed in Canada for CAD400.00, but Costco members got a coupon for 100 dollars off this price last summer. When my friends needed a new vac, I gave them the coupon and they grabbed the last one in a decent box at their local Costco store. They absolutely love this little vac! The best thing about it is the fact that it comes with the classic Eureka attachments, including their deluxe upholstery nozzle that first came out in the 1960's! Electrolux must be using the same mold for this design - hope they continue to offer it as it is one of the best upholstery nozzle designs ever made. The EL 6988 also comes with a very good, large, wheeled floor brush.

Apparently, the only serious problem with this unit is that if you disconnect the electrified wands with the power still on, you can cause the wands to become damaged by the heat or the sparks coming from the electric connections. My friends are very careful with this, and they love the light weight of the wands for use with the other tools.

Haven't seen any of these Electrolux vacs in my area so far. If they come here I'd get the Oxygen canister or the Harmony.
