What should i pay for a model 28?

What should I pay for a model 28 hoover, its overall in good condition but its not and original bag and the original cord is missing the plug end.

I wouldn't pay more than $25 or so, personally. There are still LOTS of 28s out there to be found.

Thank you much! I found one I like it, well I love it but its quite rough and he wont go any lower then 150.00, and there's no attachments or anything just the machine but the Bakelite hood is all cracked.

you'll find a nice one. I got mine with an old Kenmore and a bunch of pieces/parts for $30. It's in great shape, ran a little rough when I first got it, but a little oil in the top bearing and it runs as quiet as ever. I also swapped out the 4-row brush roll it came with for the roller in my model 300, which is the old style brush and beat. I recently installed new brush strips in the 300's roller, and now that it's in the 28, I have a 50's machine that can clean with the best of them.

That's very awesome! Yeah I think I'm gonna pass this one up and keep searching! it's great too be able to get all over your input! It helps greatly! Ugh I must say I've been on here a lot more the last few days being sick and all.

You have 4 wow that's really awesome!! I have quite a few Kirby's and bisons but now I'm trying to strengthen my collection of hovers! They are amazing machines! One of my favorites!

They'll never die, if maintained. One of HOOVER's very best.

And he won't go lower than $150:00? Good Lord. The cracked hood alone makes this little more than a parts doner. This guy sounds like he's dumber than a bag of hammers.

Lol yeah he had 150.00 set in his mind and I understand he knows it's vintage and what not, but it's in very rough shape.

Alex, if you think hammers are getting dumber, you should hear what I've heard about people. Hammers are starting to look like real Einstein's! Why, I've heard certain people just recently say that they don't believe in a hereafter, but they fully expect to see their departed pet someday....kinda makes you scratch your head and wonder doesn't it?

Just think about it, if you buy a KIRBY, you won't ever suffer buyers remorse! There's nothing more you could ever possibly ask for.

I find that there are always people who think they have found the golden egg when they get Granny's old sweeper. It must be rare and valuable, she's had it since 1940!!! I hate to 'enlighten' them sometimes... but it is necessary on occasion. I am known in my area as a collector and repairer of vintage (and new) vacuums. I even have a little side business repairing vacuums for those who don't mind a bit of a wait for substantially less expensive and often much higher quality work. I get a few dozen people every year who show up with Granny's XXX or LX or even the odd Hoover or Kirby, every one of them is sure that their machine is rare and valuable.... until I open the 'room' and they see dozens of 'old and valuable' machines, almost always in far better condition and complete with all original tools and hoses.... But every once in a while someone comes and really does have an exceptional example... virtually new or very well cared for and I'll snap it up if they aren't too greedy, otherwise I suggest they research recent sales results on eBay for machines like theirs and discover that they have something worth a fair bit south of $100...
