What should I get?

If...

You're worried about the price of bags and filling them with pet hair why not just buy a bagless upright in the first place?

I'd much rather have the lightweight bagged than the cyclonic upright in the platinum collection because the bagged machine just looks better.

I like bagged machines except for in vacuums like the kind where they would be too small and impractical. I don't want a Dyson, except for the DC41, which is far too expensive and not very many can be had for a low price used on eBay yet. I just don't like bagless machines very much.

Save your money and skip the Linx handheld for steps. The price tag is over $100, and its still a battery powered vac.

Get a Wintunnel T bagless cyclonic. I've heard excellent things about them. Use that as your bagless. Use the portable canister from the Platinum lightweight bagged upright package to use on the steps and that would save you the $100+ price tag of getting the Linx hand vac.

If you get a full size canister vacuum you can use the attachments on that for the steps. The Panasonic MC-CG902 canister has very large capacity bags, and are fairly economical in price. The upholstery nozzle is full sized with bristles. You could also find a Kenmore PowerMate Jr. new or used from numerous sources including eBay. Since the 902 is essentially the same machine as an older Kenmore Progressive, the hoses are the same and it will fit any powermate jr or most turbine powered nozzles on the market as well.

You could also look to bagless canister vacs. I have heard bad things about Hoover's Platinum bagless canister--hose power problems, but good thinks about the red and green standard cyclonic bagless line SH40050 & SH40055. These machines do come standard with a bare floor brush but the power nozzle fitting is a quick disconnect pedal with standard size round end on wand to fit most any friction fit bare floor brush if needed. The newer Windtunnel power nozzle on these machines is very nice.

Typo-- the Hoover SH40050 &SH40055 do NOT come with bare floor brush.

The pluses to these canisters is that they are bagless--if you like that, and have an excellent power nozzle. The minus is that the upholstery nozzle, dusting tools are very small. Most likely you have an assortment of other upholstery nozzles etc. to use with one of these.

The LG bagless power head canisters look nice and LG is a good brand. However, I have not done the research on the LG's to check consumer ratings and I've never tried one. Does anyone have an opinion or knowledge etc. about the LG Kompressor bagless power nozzle canister vacuum?

I too..

would recommend skipping the cordless Linx...in the long run it will not be worth it.
It may not match, but a corded Hoover Flair w/ Power nozzle would be better. I have never used a better stick vacuum with a power nozzle. I LOVE corded stick vacs with brushrolls, and this one is really good....i just wouldn't go cordless.

The LG...

Kompressor canister would be great! I loved the thing and with the way the PN edge cleans you'll never need to get out the crevice tool. Just wait for it to come on sale though because its price goes as low as $280. Plus the Kompressor + LG's "vertical cyclones" keeps the filter super clean.

Love my Hoover Platinum

Before I had my rotator (right soulder) surgery and now a year and 1/2 later. I am back to using and needing my Hoover Platinum lite weight. It has great power and grooming results. I love my Kirby's for carpet and hard floor cleaning. They move rather easily, but they are still heavy to carry or move. So the Hoover
Platinum is the best for left handed vacuuming on the short shag carpet in my apt.
Yes, John, you did hear me give praise to a TTI current model Hoover and I do actually use it ! LOL !

I have both the flair with power nozzle and the hoover platinum linx stick vac. In my opinion the linx and flair clean about equally, but the linx is more convenient due to the battery lasting long enough for most quick cleanups. I actually made a video of the two a little while ago.

I think im going to hunt for a good deal on a new platinum upright on eBay, and buy the corded windtunnel stick as a companion as well as the portable canister for above floor cleaning.
