Recently, my mom gave me permission to buy any vacuum on eBay for less than thirty dollars. I have been searching endlessly for something to buy. I came across a Halo vacuum (the one with the U.V. light) with a starting bid of ten dollars with twenty shipping. The next vacuum I found was a Eureka (which must've been Eureka's response to the Hoover Elite) for thirty-two with shipping. What should I buy? If anyone knows of a machine I could buy let me know.

That Halo is a rare part of Oreck history. Oreck bought them out and sold it as the Oreck Halo. The UV light was claimed to kill germs, but it did not.this lead to production being cancelled. I have one of the Oreck models. They're heavy!

The Eureka is more common, but still uncommon. They're both good choices, choose wisely!

If you want power do the eureka, they have a lot of suction and stick to the floor. If you want hart ace and disappointment do the halo, I had my fair share of bad circuit boards, busted bulbs, and melted brush rolls.

The Oreck Halo supersweper is thinking of is the UV-ST. The Halo eBay listing you posted is of the original model, the UV-X, which almost consistently was given negative reviews while it was in production. The UV-X was discontinued long before Oreck bought the company. The Eureka Ultra, especially one in good condition, is uncommon enough some may label it rare. It's basically a 1900-series Eureka with a legitimate top-fill bag in the front.

Personally I would go with the Eureka, but choose what you think will enrich your collection the most.

The Eureka Ultra is a great upright with a nice Vibra-Groomer brush roll and very large top fill bag. You may need to replace or re-install the rubber conduit hose that fits between the base and the handle, since this part often was not installed well by purchasers.
