What model is this particular Kenmore

The stamping on the bottom says 116. I can find some Kenmore 116's online but not this specific one.

The filter in the bag area got stopped up. When clearing it I discovered the foam part had disintegrated so the motor cavity had filled up with crap. I blew all this out but, I saw on newer models similar to this one that there is a foam filter around the motor. I wanted to get in there and see if it needed replaced if it does. I also would like to know where to get this motor filter. I found the filter that goes in the bag cavity on Ebay. Thanks for ya'lls help.

How do I acess Motor cavity

I can not find any screws or way to access the end of the machine where the motor resides. Any help?

116 is the model prefix, which means it's a Panasonic made machine. Lots of people will call these a Model 116 but it's not really accurate.

There should be tabs on either side of that canopy that release it and then under that take the two screws off and the top should lift off.

There's not a foam around the motor on this model. If you still have the red filter frame, what I would do is scrape off the rest of the disintegrated foam. Then I would buy a foam window air conditioner filter that you cut to fit. Then you can cut that to fit the filter frame and either place it behind the frame or glue it in place.

I have replaced a few vacuum filters this way. I would use the Duck Brand AC filter that you can get at Walmart, as it's thinner.

There's also a foam material that goes over the exhaust vent of the vacuum, you can replace that as well.

On the newer models you mention with the foam around the motor, I find it's usually still in good shape, but needs to be cleaned every 5 years or so. It gets clogged with dust from the carbon brushes and if you wash it out and let it dry, you get much better airflow.

I usually also take any parts that don't have wiring in them and give them a bath in hot soapy water, then polish with a soft cloth, gets the machine looking like new and gets rid of odors.

Not same model

The model you reference is not the same as mine. Note the tools are not carried onboard like mine and the filter from the parts pic looks to be different. There are no tabs I can find to remove the motor cover.

First open bag lid but after it wants to stop continue moving backwards until it comes off.You will then see 2 screws at front.
Then insert flat screwdriver above bumper about 1/2 inch from rear of side of switch button cover.Move outward about 1/4 inch and it will unsnap.
These were a good vac at much less than the cost of premium models.

The filter for the inside of the bag chamber (the red ladder filter) is still available. I just ordered six to have in stock for my customers.

No screws

There are no screws inside the holes where the lid hinges retract into. This machine is older than any that I have been able to find on the internet. I used a flashlight and looked all in these holes and there is nothing to be found.


Any other ideas would be welcomed.

Other than this model having screws at rear instead of front just do the above and cover labeled as "1" on Sears parts diagram will unsnap and lift off.
