What Kinda Convertible is this

I personally feel that....

IMHO If Hoover re-introduced this as a "retro"vertible, sales would skyrocket that color scheme looks amazing to me.. It looks super modern, with that flash of the old days. It must have an aluminum alloy, or titanium base, some sort of metal NO PLASTIC! They could put the current commercial motor in it with a CWP standard, with the Triple Action Agitator as a upgrade, with a 30 ft cord, but of course a zipper HEPA bag for all those people who feel their vacuum must have such equipment....

I was never a fan of the snap closure's then or now.

It would walk all over current cleaners. Of course make the attachments the later "Powerseal" style, and wrap it all up in a package for $249.99 or thereabouts. They'd sell out.

Of course...TTI would never have the balls to re-do soemthing the "right" way.

It would end up being a monstrosity......

Amen, Chad!! If they had the courage (and faith!) to make a decent vacuum, it'd be amazing! No frills, just get's the job done! An aluminum base would be sufficient...it'd be thousands of dollars for a titanium base! :-) Whatever they'd choose, it'd better not be pot metal!

A fantastic idea, though!!

Well Said Chad! I was actually expecting the "100th Anniversary Convertible" to look somewhat like this or what you just described above. Oh Well, I knew TTI would throw a wrench in there and mess it all up.

stephen,

I agree with you 100% I was also expecting a Convertible at least somewhat close to the Convertibles we all know and love.
One positive thing is that the color chosen for the anniversary Convertible feels like it would be right at home on an old Convertible.
It must be too much to ask for the Convertible to be brought back as it was.

I'd totally go for the idea of a new Convertible. I would think you could have a few different colors to choose from and it would look really nice.

A few things would be needed though. I was thinking of a Magnesium alloy base (like in the late 1930s), that might be chrome plated. I think in 2008, if people buy a metal product, they want to see metal.

Like I mentioned earlier, colors matter. It must stand out next to purple and yellow Dysons and such. Perhaps you could have a retro series with old style colors, and a modern series with less flashy colors.

Top fill bag with modern quick attach bag collar is a must have.

Just for the sake of controversy, I want a beltless brushroll with bare floor and attachment shut off, with a bare floor brush in the base plate. In addition, I think top conversion attachments would be great.

I really think this style is almost dead as far a home use goes. I probably came closer to describing a prototype for a high end Sanitaire commercial cleaner rather than a retro Hoover.

Real simple reason why they dont tap into those resources. Dont you know you have to have a colledge education (according to guys like that) in order to know anything (even if you have never done it in your life). That idiotic piece of paper makes you an expert. Working at the job for the last 30 + years couldnt possibly give you any knowledge of what you are doing.

(No I have no use for colledge educations - LOL)

A new Convertible....

The 100'th anniversary convertible represents a tragic recycling of a name that should have been left alone. But no; instead the new company [what is it: TTI?] changed the whole concept of the convertible so that it is unrecognizable. Instead of "convertible," meaning easily converted to cleaning tools [which was the idea in 1957 when it first came out] now it's convertible --- converts between a bagged and bagless cleaners. Sad use of a name that meant so much more quality and elegant design.

I always thought that they would have done well with a Convertible to match the new stainless steel Constellation. I think the seller in this eBay item kind of had the idea right with some of the elements he included in this, like the stainless handle with black grip and the black bumper.

I would love to see a fully stainless steel traditional Convertible with a black hood[with light]and black bumper. I would envision the red Hoover logo where it always was placed on the front left side of the cleaner. The handle would also be stainless much like the one in this eBay offering with the black handle grip and long black cord. The bag could be a design in various shades of gray perhaps with the Hoover logo in red.

I agree with all the extra amenities as far as top fill bag; and easy change of bag. They could use Filtrete bags with this and it would be a knock out; but I would not add onboard tools. I think the convertible should be what it is. As a classic styled upright vacuum cleaner, I beleive there would be a market for it for a long time.

Another thought would be to be able to make up your own colors for the Convertible. The base and handle could all be stainless steel. But the Hood, Bumper Color, Handle Grip and Bag could all be mix and match. They could have perhaps 4 to 6 different colors and one could play around with it. Now how about that: a designer vacuum!!!

Thoughts....!

As I mentioned in another thread a few weeks back, this is not the first time Hoover used the Convertible (and Constellation) names on cleaners that were anything but.

If I run across better pictures some time soon, I'll post them.
