For me it would be the British-made Hoover Harlequin canister/cylinder vac. At some point, these were on sale in Canada, and when I saw them in newspaper advertisements, I thought it was such a cool vacuum - especially the nifty metal wire tool caddy!!!

For me…

Of a vintage Hoover…it would have to be a dial a matic. My play school teacher had one. It was the early 70s and it seemed so cool to me as my Mom only had the Electrolux model L. Since then I’ve realized it was not a “dirty fan” machine and really became the model for what basic upright vacuums are today. They say the best is often imitated! My Brother had one for some time he got somewhere…a later version with power drive. He liked it for the rugs but never had a lot of rugs so I think he finally deleted it as he also has an Electrolux Silverado which was left with the house when they bought the place.
