What is you favourite type of vacuum?

Water Filtration Canisters!

Rainbows are great. I'm also tempted by a Pro Aqua on Craigslist for $180. I currently have four Rainbows and I love them all. I'm still looking for a '30s-'40s Rexair though. A couple nice ones on eBay caught my eye but they're too expensive. Besides Rainbows: Filter Queen, Air-Way, Electrolux and Compact are great too. I'm a canister person if you can't tell already. For uprights, I like a bagged Simplicity Freedom or Royal (metal) upright. For bagless machines, I really only like the Fantom Thunder.

Well most of you probably know mine, but....

My favorite part of a vacuum is the brush roll. Additionally I love the flexibility and skinniness of maneuvering a skinny wand around rooms, between furnishings, under beds, etc. Therefore my favorite style vacuum is an electric power nozzle equipped canister vacuum cleaner! There are 11 power nozzle canisters in my home.

I won't take in a straight suction machine. My favorite kind of flooring is a medium high dense carpet that grooms well. Anytime I move, the carpeting is a prime aspect of my search criteria. Other than bathrooms, kitchen and some entry ways, I prefer as much carpet as possible, especially steps. I'm definitely not a fan of hard steps.

I would much rather push a power nozzle around than to do a bare floor brush process followed by wet mop. Needless to say whenever my bare floors get cleaned I always use a bare floor brush as opposed to just a power nozzle with the motor off. A designated bare floor brush that is designed well and hopefully has horsehair bristles gives floors a great full dusting and filth removal which keeps mopping bucket water cleaner longer and minimal hair collection on the mop head.

Here's a recent photo of just the Hoover power nozzles that are in my house!
***The black Windtunnel bagless power nozzle on the far left was recently gained by me and has yet to be refurbed, therefore that is actual dirt on the top of that one!

Photo 2, I just took 2 days when I used the Hoover PowerMax with a separate dedicated wand set for the bare floor brush. Taken the same day is Photo 3 of me in my cleaning attire. I cleaned the bathroom and mopped floors on Wednesday after classes.

***Don't mind my appearance, I always wear the worst clothes that I own for bathroom cleaning day, this photo took place after everything was mopped and scoured too, so I was worked up and sweaty too. LOL

I totally agree with Human on this one. I love my Lux canister but upright for carpets totally. In another house, my opinion may change. Raised on canister, but I find I am more clumsy now and upright works for most times.

My favorite would be

Metal clean air uprights such as Panasonic, Tacony(Riccar/Simplicity), ESSCO(Evolution/Morse/Bernina/Cirrus), and including the discontinued brands such as Sanyo and Sharp. They are vacuums that uses a metal handle, a metal bottom plate, and a metal brushroll. My favorite brand out of all those would be Panasonic because I grew up around with them, always loved the looks on them, and they just always impresses me when I use them. Unfortunately I would now have to say Panasonic would be my new favorite vintage brand instead of the modern brand because their performance plus platinum uprights are now disappearing in the U.S., there are only 2 that are still being made today and they used to have like six of them at the time back then. I would be favoriting Tacony to be my new favorite Modern brand today because they still use components that Panasonic used on their vacuums as well. Eureka Sanitaire types would be my second but just wished they haven't changed the motor on them today. And central vacuums would be my third but it's defiantly the vacuum I would want to use out of all the vacuums I would use for my own home but I were to own a cabin as well, I would use a Kirby which would be my fourth favorite of all time.

Great lineup, Zippy.

Well,  MY favorite is a Hoover Convertible.  Big Surprise there!!

For attachment use,  I'll use a Constellation or sometimes a Slimline.  For 'quickies", I'll grab a quickbroom. For the staircases, I'll use a Brushvac.

There are many from which to choose. Opposed to opinion that I'm "mentally damaged"... having way too many Hoovers all through the house, I disagree.  Comments from those who have never been in this house, and never will, really don't influence me at all.

I have great, handy access to any model, type, color, vintage vacuum.

Thanks John!!

You know I love my Celebrity and PowerMax canisters a lot!! I love your collection John, you're a Hoover expert and your home is like a Hoover Exhibition!

PanasonicVac- I couldn't agree more on your statement of the Sanitaire motors. I did commercial cleaning for a year using several Sanitaires in various accounts that I was cleaning. The vendor I worked for had older and newer SC886 and machines, and SC899 and some plastic hood ones. The newer motor on the SC886 produces a really obnoxious sound that I can't stand to hear. It's powerful but actually too powerful for the SC886 12" model, it makes rubber bottomed mats a P.I.T.A to clean and those rugs are commonplace in commonplace in commercial environments. I found the machines only wanted to eat the rugs and not clean them!! The plastic hood Sanitaires had a pleasant sounding much quieter motor and did a great job of cleaning and being much more efficient over the newer model SC886 series.

I meant to mention..

I have very few power nozzle canisters, I love straight suction rug nozzles.

For Me...

It's any type of Direct Air, fan first bagged upright vacuum. My favorites are Kirby, Royal and Sanitaire in that order.

John, I'm glad I was able to "corrupt" you!!  hahaahha     They are really are fun machines to use once you've tried one and the Celebrity's groom well!!

But also John, I have been trained well by you.  I like my Decade 800 very much.  I have a Convertible Elite that I like a lot too and also my Hoover Widepath Softguard machine!  The only 3 uprights that I have in my collection and they're all Hoover!

I'm very fond of anything vintage, so buy default, canister vacuums are my favorite type. Canisters also remind me of cars, something I'm an even bigger enthusiast about. And since Aerus/Electrolux still makes models that date to the 1970's (Classic, Legacy), they are by default my favorite brand.
